- Cream butter and shortening. Add in sugar and beat well till smooth. Add in egg yolks and beat well. Combine flour and baking soda, and add in to creamed mix alternately with buttermilk. Stir in flavorings, salt, coconut and nuts; add in Cognac. Mix in egg whites. Bake in 3 layers at 350 degrees for 25 min or possibly till done.
- Prepare icing as follows:Cream all together till smooth. Will generously ice all three layers and sides.
