Idli batter bonda – an Indian tea time snack made with idli batter, rava, rice flour onions, green chillies, curry leaves and coriander leaves. This is one snack which can be prepared in a short time if the idli batter is readily available at home. It not only saves time but at the same time make a tasty evening snack or when guests come home unexpectedly. Idli batter is a fermented batter of rice and urad dal. This bonda is very crisp on the outside but soft from inside. This bonda is similar to punugulu which is a popular snack in Andhra Pradesh. Little semolina is added to the batter to give a crispy taste to the bonda. You can add little more green chillies to make it extra spicy.
It is a very popular evening snack enjoyed with a nice cup of tea or coffee. This snack also goes well as a side dish to sambar or rasam rice. Do try this delicious snack from the regular snacks made and enjoy!!

INGREDIENTS
Idli batter – 2 cups
Rava – 2 teaspoons
Rice flour – 2 teaspoons
Onion – 1/2 cup (chopped finely)
Green chillies – 2 (chopped finely)
Ginger or adrak – 1/2 teaspoon (grated or chopped finely)
Curry leaves – 2 tablespoons
Coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons
Cumin seeds or jeera – 1/2 teaspoon
Baking soda – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
HOW TO MAKE OR PREPARE IDLI BATTER BONDA RECIPE
Take a large mixing bowl and add 2 cups of idli batter. Add 2 teaspoons of rava and 2 teaspoons of rice flour to the batter. Add 1/2 cup chopped onions, ginger, cumin seeds, chopped coriander leaves, curry leaves and salt. Mix all the ingredients well. Keep it aside. Heat sufficient oil in a heavy bottomed pan or kadai. Keep the flame on medium heat. Wet your hands and gently drop the batter by hand one by one into the oil. Keep stirring occasionally and deep fry the bondas till golden in colour.
Drain them in an absorbent/kitchen tissue paper to remove excess oil. Serve the bondas hot immediately hot and crispy along with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.
NOTES/TIPS
If the batter is watery, add little more rice flour to it.
Adjust green chillies according to the spicy taste required by you.
You can use either fresh or leftover idli batter for making the bondas.
Serve the bondas immediately hot and crispy.
You can also add few chopped coconut slices for a more crunchy taste.
