Рецепт I love my slow cooker!
Some might think that the slow cooker is meant for cold wintery nights when you just need a hot bowl of stew or soup, but actually I think they're perfect for using during those hot sweltering nights as well. For me, the thought of coming home to a house that smells like something has been cooking all day long (because it has) and dinner is ready when I walk in the door...well that just sounds excellent to me.
As well, in the summertime (to me) one should always consider using the slow cooker. Firstly you do not need to slave over a hot stove when you're already feeling beat and sweaty. Secondly, you can do all of the prep work the night before, when it's (hopefully) cooled off outside and your house is not a sauna. And thirdly, as mentioned before...dinner is ready when you walk in the door!
Not-So-Sloppy Joes
serves 8
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds extra-lean ground turkey
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup A-1 steak sauce (I used HP steak sauce)
- gluten free rolls or rice cakes for serving
Directions:
Using a 6 quart slow cooker, put the ground meat directly into the slow cooker, and add the brown sugar, ketchup, mustard and A-1 steak sauce. Stir well with a spoon to combine the flavors. (If you don't have extra lean turkey in the house or you use a different variety of meat, you may want to brown the meat on the stove and drain the fat before putting it into the slow cooker with the rest of the ingredients).
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or on high for 4 hours. Stir well to break up the meat before serving on rolls or rice cakes.
**Notes**
I used HP steak sauce instead of A-1 steak sauce as they are pretty similar and that's what I had in the house. Also I did not have quite 2 cups of ketchup so I added a bit of water and I do not think it made a difference. Overall we all really liked this recipe and seriously it took me maybe 5 minutes to put it together. Great recipe. virtually not effort and a hot meal ready when I got home. What more can you ask for, right.
