,%20I%20decided%20to%20stage%20a%20competition%20of%20my%20own%20during%20the%20game.%20I%20carried%20out%20the%20%22Hot%20Wing%20Face%20Off%22%20as%20I%20watched%20the%20Super%20Bowl%20from%20my%20kitchen.%20The%20contenders:%20Oven%20Baked%20Wings%20vs.%20Traditional%20Fried%20Wings.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe're%20big%20fans%20of%20%20traditional%20hot%20wings,%20fried%20to%20a%20crisp%20and%20tossed%20with%20hot%20sauce.%20But%20last%20week,%20I%20came%20across%20THIS%20recipe%20for%20Unbelievable%20Baked%20Buffalo%20Wings%20on%20Food.com.%20Would%20they%20really%20be%20%22Unbelievable%22?%20Better%20than%20the%20fried%20version,%20even?%20I%20had%20to%20find%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWings%20were%20already%20on%20the%20menu%20for%20our%20Super%20Bowl%20snacks,%20so%20I%20set%20just%206%20wings%20aside%20to%20make%20the%20Unbelievable%20Baked%20Wings.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20how%20it%20went:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20wings%20started%20out%20the%20same,%20separated%20into%20flats%20and%20mini%20drummies%20with%20my%20kitchen%20shears%20(for%20a%20tutorial%20on%20how%20to%20do%20this,%20see%20HERE)%20and%20rinsed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20the%20wings%20in%20a%20pot%20with%20water%20(to%20cover)%20and%20red%20pepper%20flakes,%20cayenne%20pepper,%20and%20salt.%20Bring%20to%20a%20boil%20and%20then%20cook%20for%20an%20additional%2015%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETransfer%20the%20wings%20to%20a%20baking%20sheet%20coated%20with%20cooking%20spray.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe%20instructed:%20%22Bake%20wings%20on%20%22Broil%22%20(high)%20for%2015%20minutes%20on%20each%20side.(For%20crispier%20wings,%20cook%20longer%20on%20each%20side,%20maybe%2020%20minutes%20per%20side).%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E20%20minutes%20per%20side!?%20This%20much%20broiling%20for%20itty%20bitty%20chicken%20wings%20seemed%20excessive%20to%20me,%20but%20I%20just%20shrugged%20and%20followed%20the%20instructions,%20but%20not%20before%20moving%20my%20oven%20rack%20further%20away%20from%20the%20broiler%20so%20the%20wings%20would%20not%20be%20so%20close%20to%20the%20intensity%20of%20the%20heat.%20About%2010%20minutes%20into%20the%20broiling%20time,%20I%20smelled%20something%20burning.%20Uh-oh.%20Luckily,%20I%20was%20able%20to%20salvage%20the%20wings...barely.%20No%20worries%20about%20them%20being%20crisp%20enough.%20I%20did%20turn%20them%20over%20and%20broil%20for%20another%202%20minutes%20on%20the%20other%20side%20just%20to%20insure%20even%20crispness%20before%20removing%20them%20from%20the%20oven.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20finish,%20I%20tossed%20the%20wings%20in%20my%20go-to%20classic%20wing%20sauce:%20equal%20parts%20of%20butter%20(melted)%20and%20Frank's%20Red%20Hot.%20So%20simple,%20but%20it%20always%20turns%20out%20perfectly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*For%201%20dozen%20wings,%20I%20used%201/2%20cup%20of%20butter%20and%201/2%20cup%20of%20Red%20Hot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20for%20the%20fried%20wings:%20I%20just%20dropped%20the%20wings%20into%20the%20basket%20in%20my%20fryer%20(pre-heated%20to%20350%20degrees).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESend%20them%20for%20an%208-10%20minute%20dip%20in%20the%20hot%20tub.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20remove%20the%20perfectly%20crispy%20wings.%20Drain%20on%20paper%20towels,%20sprinkle%20with%20a%20little%20salt,%20and%20toss%20with%20sauce.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*To%20sauce,%20I%20like%20to%20put%20the%20wings%20in%20a%20plastic%20container%20filled%20with%20sauce,%20top%20with%20a%20lid,%20and%20shake%20the%20container%20until%20the%20wings%20are%20coated.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20verdict:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESide%20by%20side%20on%20the%20serving%20plate%20you%20can't%20tell%20the%20difference%20between%20baked%20and%20fried.%20Despite%20the%20fact%20that%20the%20baked%20wings%20were%20boiled%20with%20spices,%20there%20was%20no%20discernible%20difference%20in%20taste,%20either.%20But%20the%20texture...well,%20here's%20where%20the%20fried%20wings%20had%20the%20edge.%20Both%20preparation%20methods%20yielded%20a%20crispy%20outside,%20but%20the%20meat%20of%20the%20baked%20wings%20was%20a%20bit%20chewier-slightly%20rubbery,%20even.%20Not%20so%20much%20that%20it%20was%20repulsive,%20but%20enough%20that%20I%20definitely%20preferred%20the%20fried%20wings%20to%20the%20baked.%20And%20so,%20THE%20WINNER:%20the%20fried%20wings!%20That%20said,%20if%20you're%20really%20trying%20to%20cut%20fried%20food%20out%20of%20your%20diet...and%20you've%20got%20a%20hankerin'%20for%20hot%20wings,%20the%20Unbelievable%20Baked%20Buffalo%20Wings%20would%20be%20a%20good%20substitute.%20But%20me,%20I'd%20skip%20lunch%20just%20to%20splurge%20on%20the%20fried%20wings!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYUM!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20now,%20for%20a%20meal%20plan!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMonday%20February%207th%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStewed%20Garlicky%20Sausage%20and%20Peppers%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETuesday%20February%208th%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDuck%20Fajitas%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWednesday%20February%209th%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EZippy%20Chicken%20Soup%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThursday%20February%2010th%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELeftovers%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFriday%20February%2011th%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChicago%20Deep-Dish%20Pizza%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESaturday%20Febr
