- Put prunes, dates, shortening, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, orange peel, orange juice and warm water into a mixing bowl. Stir well and set aside for 15 min.
- Add in Large eggs, stir; add in soda and mix thoroughly.
- Sift flour, baking pwdr and salt. Add in to liquid and stir just sufficient to moisten dry ingredients. Mix in nuts. Turn into two greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pans.
- Bake in a slow oven (325 degrees) one hour or possibly till bread tests done in the center. Let stand in pans 10 min; turn onto wire rack to cold. Wrap in foil or possibly plastic wrap and store in cold place.
