%20asked%20me%20if%20I%20would%20participate.%20It%20was%20easy%20to%20answer,%20%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%C5%93Yes,%20of%20course%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%C2%9D.%20It%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%E2%84%A2s%20a%20noble%20gesture%20and%20a%20great%20way%20to%20raise%20awareness%20about%20a%20disease%20that%20is%20still%20horrifying%20in%20global%20proportions.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20when%20I%20sat%20down%20to%20write%20the%20introduction%20to%20my%20first%20entry,%20Oysters%20with%20Red%20Mignonette,%20I%20was%20surprised%20by%20the%20emotions%20that%20came%20boiling%20to%20the%20surface.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20see%20what%20I%20remember%20about%20AIDS,%20especially%20during%20those%20early%20years%20was%20the%20public%20condemnation%20too%20many%20of%20the%20first%20victims%20had%20to%20face%20as%20an%20added%20burden%20to%20the%20bewildering%20and%20overwhelming%20process%20of%20dying.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20condemnation%20came%20in%20many%20forms:%20Medical%20personnel%20who%20did%20not%20understand%20what%20was%20going%20on;%20friends%20and%20family%20shocked%20into%20silence;%20a%20new%20type%20of%20fear%20within%20the%20gay%20community.%20A%20fear%20so%20deep%20it%20threatened%20to%20send%20many%20of%20us%20back%20into%20the%20closet%20after%20so%20many%20generations%20of%20progress.%20And%20of%20course,%20intolerance%20from%20the%20most%20self-righteous%20among%20us,%20a%20type%20of%20hatred%20so%20base%20it%20has%20colored%20my%20feelings%20about%20religion%20and%20morality%20forever.%20Even%20our%20government%20was%20blind%20to%20the%20horror%20for%20far%20too%20long.%20We%20had%20an%20affable%20President%20whose%20leadership%20on%20this%20matter%20could%20have%20made%20all%20the%20difference.%20Instead%20he%20kept%20completely%20silent,%20offering%20no%20comfort%20or%20prayers%20to%20the%20dying%20or%20those%20living%20in%20fear%20and%20bewilderment.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20I%20am%20trying%20to%20say%20is%20Cooking%20Red%20To%20Remember%20brought%20out%20all%20my%20old%20anger;%20anger%20that%20has%20become%20a%20part%20of%20who%20I%20am.%20Anger%20so%20familiar%20I%20did%20not%20even%20recognize%20it%20for%20what%20it%20was%20until%20Angela%20came%20along.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%E2%84%A2t%20expect%20to%20put%20aside%20my%20anger.%20In%20fact%20I%20am%20proud%20of%20it.%20But%20I%20am%20also%20pleased%20to%20let%20it%20loose%20a%20little%20bit%20so%20that%20(maybe)%20I%20can%20breath%20a%20little%20easier.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20here%20is%20a%20toast%20to%20Angela%20and%20SpinachTiger.%20I%20raise%20a%20glass%20to%20the%20memory%20of%20her%20brother%20and%20her%20cousin%20because%20it%20symbolically%20honors%20the%20multitudes%20that%20were,%20are%20and%20will%20continue%20to%20be%20affected%20by%20this%20disease.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENaturally%20it%20is%20a%20RED%20drink.%20%20It%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%E2%84%A2s%20a%20Red%20Snapper%20Shooter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20when%20comes%20to%20alcoholic%20libations%20I%20am%20not%20much%20of%20a%20shooter%20kind%20of%20guy.%20I%20am%20much%20more%20of%20a%20sipper.%20I%20enjoy%20the%20whole%20process%20of%20a%20cocktail.%20But%20in%20this%20situation%20I%20felt%20a%20shooter%20was%20just%20the%20right%20choice.%20So%20pick%20up%20a%20shot,%20and%20pass%20one%20to%20your%20neighbor.%20This%20is%20not%20a%20drink%20for%20one%20lone%20man%20at%20a%20solitary%20table.%20Nope,%20I%20need%20friends%20around%20for%20this%20one.%20Because%20by%20joining%20me%20in%20this%20drink%20you%20can%20help%20me%20%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%C5%93swallow%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%C2%9D%20some%20of%20this%20anger%20and%20move%20forward.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%E2%84%A2s%20a%20delicious%20little%20shooter%20too!%20In%20fact%20it%20tastes%20a%20bit%20a%20like%20an%20almond,%20cranberry%20and%20creamy%20oak%20Tootsie-Pop!%20The%20cranberry%20and%20amaretto%20draw%20the%20oak%20flavors%20from%20the%20Canadian%20whiskey,%20giving%20it%20a%20very%20full%20mouth,%20almost%20chocolaty%20taste%20sensation.%20The%20smokiness%20lingers%20just%20a%20bit%20giving%20us%20time%20to%20reflect%20and%20remember.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20my%20final%20entry%20in%20Cooking%20Red%20To%20Remember.%20There%20is%20still%20time%20to%20post%20something%20red.%20I%20hope%20you%20do.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShake%20the%20ingredients%20vigourously%20over%20cracked%20ice.%20Strain%20into%20a%20chilled%20shot%20glass.%20Drink%20in%20one%20gulp.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
