- Soften yeast in hot water. Add in brown sugar, molasses and shortening. Add in salt and flour. Knead well. Cover and let rise 1 hour. Knead again, cover and let rise another hour. Shape into loaves. Let rise till double in bulk. Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, for about one hour. Makes 3 loaves.
