Grilled cheese sandwiches are just about my favorite food (next to pizza...and cinnamon rolls...oh, and pie), so it's no surprise that I like to mess with them. I will eat them any which way....even with American Cheese on them (generally not my favorite food).
Not only do I love grilled cheese sandwiches, but I'm one of those people who like food in miniature. Small food, if you will. Mini pastries, tiny tarts, desserts in shot glasses, bite sized mac 'n cheese....and, of course, sliders. You probably think sliders are so two years ago. ,%20so%20it's%20no%20surprise%20that%20I%20like%20to%20mess%20with%20them.%20I%20will%20eat%20them%20any%20which%20way....even%20with%20American%20Cheese%20on%20them%20(generally%20not%20my%20favorite%20food).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20only%20do%20I%20love%20grilled%20cheese%20sandwiches,%20but%20I'm%20one%20of%20those%20people%20who%20like%20food%20in%20miniature.%20Small%20food,%20if%20you%20will.%20Mini%20pastries,%20tiny%20tarts,%20desserts%20in%20shot%20glasses,%20bite%20sized%20mac%20'n%20cheese....and,%20of%20course,%20sliders.%20You%20probably%20think%20sliders%20are%20so%20two%20years%20ago.%20Indeed,%20I've%20seen%20many,%20many%20recipes%20for%20various%20sliders,%20mostly%20little%20burgers.%20And%20they%20are%20good.%20Very%20good.%20I%20got%20to%20thinking,%20though,%20that%20I%20hadn't%20seen%20any%20grilled%20cheese%20sliders.%20Wouldn't%20they%20be%20tasty?%20I%20even%20figured%20out%20how%20I%20was%20going%20to%20make%20them.%20Then,%20I%20googled.%20They've%20been%20done.%20The%20best%20I%20saw%20were%20from%20Panini%20Kathy.%20Sigh.%20Will%20I%20ever%20have%20an%20original%20thought%20again?%20Oh,%20well--my%20method%20is%20different.%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20found%20a%20rye%20baguette%20at%20the%20store---love%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20these%20are%20really%20easy.%20Just%20buy%20yourself%20one%20of%20those%20really%20good%20baguettes....most%20grocery%20stores%20carry%20them.%20%20Preheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees%20F.%20Then%20slice%20the%20baguette%20up%20into%201/2%22%20slices%20and%20put%20them%20on%20a%20baking%20pan%20lined%20with%20parchment%20or%20a%20silpat.%20Now%20take%20a%20couple%20of%20tablespoons%20of%20olive%20oil%20(use%20a%20flavored%20one,%20if%20you%20want)%20and%20brush%20it%20on%20each%20piece%20of%20bread,%20then%20turn%20over%20every%20other%20piece%20so%20that%20half%20of%20the%20pieces%20have%20the%20oil%20on%20the%20bottom.%20Open%20up%20a%20bag%20of%20your%20favorite%20shredded%20cheese%20(or%20shred%20your%20own%20if%20you%20are%20so%20inclined--you%20could%20even%20chop%20up%20some%20brie)%20and%20put%20about%20a%20tablespoon%20on%20top%20of%20the%20halves%20of%20bread%20that%20you%20turned%20over.%20Don't%20worry%20if%20it%20spills%20over--that's%20why%20we%20have%20the%20silpat.%20Now%20top%20each%20cheese%20covered%20piece%20of%20bread%20with%20the%20other%20piece%20of%20bread%20(leave%20the%20oiled%20side%20on%20top).%20Bake%20the%20sliders%20for%2010%20minutes,%20turn%20them%20over,%20and%20bake%20for%20an%20additional%205%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20time,%20I%20decided%20to%20fancy%20up%20my%20cheese.%20I%20mixed%20together%204%20oz%20of%20softened%20cream%20cheese%20with%20a%20couple%20tablespoons%20of%20minced%20onion,%20a%20teaspoon%20of%20Italian%20seasoning,%20a%20dash%20each%20of%20garlic%20salt%20and%20cayenne%20pepper,%20and%20a%20cup%20of%20shredded%20cheese.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20cheese%20concoction%20made%20it%20a%20little%20less%20messy--the%20cheese%20didn't%20spill%20over%20the%20sides.%20The%20only%20downside%20was%20that%20I%20didn't%20have%20the%20crunchy%20cheese%20that%20gets%20left%20on%20the%20pan--love%20that%20stuff!%20Oh,%20and%20it%20didn't%20run%20down%20the%20side%20of%20the%20sandwich.%20Cheese%20encrusted%20sandwiches%20have%20a%20certain%20eye%20appeal,%20no?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20cut%20these%20slices%20a%20little%20too%20thick,%20but%20it%20all%20worked%20out%20in%20the%20end.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don't%20think%20there%20is%20any%20better%20way%20to%20enjoy%20these%20than%20by%20floating%20them%20on%20some%20tomato%20soup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20kind%20of%20cheese%20do%20you%20like%20on%20your%20grilled%20cheese%20sandwich?%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
