- Split green gram dal/Moong dal/Paasi paruppu - 1 cup
- Raw rice/Pacharisi - 1/4 cup (optional)
- Water - 8 cups
- Jaggery - 600 grams or more
- Cashew nuts - 10 or more
- Cardamom pods - 5
- Grated coconut - 1 spoon (or) Coconut pieces - 2 (1 inch long)
- Milk - 1 cup (optional)
- Ghee - 3 -4 spoons
- (If you are not sure about the ratio of jaggery, dal and water see tip 1, below the procedure)
- Dal : Jaggery : Water - 100 grams : 300 grams : 1/2 liter
