Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Ингредиенты

  • 1 (9") unbaked whole wheat pie crust
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 1/2 cups scalded milk
  • 1/4 t ground nutmeg
  • 3 drops yellow food color (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix together eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla. Stir well. Blend in scalded milk. Mix in food coloring if using. Line pie pan with pastry and brush with egg white to help prevent a soggy crust. Pour custard in piecrust. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on rack. Store in refrigerator.
