%20and%20saw%20these:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Estaring%20back%20at%20me.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESeriously.%20How%20good%20do%20those%20look?!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20can%E2%80%99t%20remember%20the%20last%20time%20I%20ate%20a%20hush%20puppy.%20At%20least%20four%20years%20for%20sure,%20since%20I%E2%80%99ve%20been%20gluten%20free%20for%20a%20little%20over%20four,%20but%20I%20can%E2%80%99t%20even%20remember%20the%20last%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20Parrish%20and%20I%20went%20out%20to%20run%20errands%20on%20Saturday,%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20stop%20thinking%20about%20that%20article!%20I%20was%20planning%20a%20kale%20salad%20for%20Saturday%20night%E2%80%99s%20supper%E2%80%A6but%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20hush%20puppies%20go%20perfectly%20with%20that?!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENo?%20Yes!%20As%20it%20turns%20out,%20hush%20puppies%20go%20with%20everything%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe%20in%20this%20month%E2%80%99s%20issue%20of%20BHG%20calls%20for%20yellow%20cornmeal.%20I%20know%20there%20is%20gluten%20free%20cornmeal%20out%20there,%20but%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20find%20any%20at%20Target.%20So%20if%20you%20want%20to%20make%20authentic%20BHG%20hush%20puppies,%20grab%20this%20months%20issue%20and%20some%20gluten%20free%20cornmeal!%20I%20changed%20the%20recipe%20quite%20a%20bit.%20The%20stars%20of%20my%20recipe:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGluten%20Free%20Beer-%20Cheese%20Hush%20Puppies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eadapted%20from%20Better%20Homes%20and%20Gardens,%20October%202012%20issue%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%E2%80%99ll%20need:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20bowl,%20mix%20together%20the%20cornbread%20mix,%20gluten%20free%20flour,%20cheese,%20onion,%20and%20red%20pepper.%20Mix%20to%20combine%20well.%20In%20a%20separate%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20the%20egg%20and%20beer.%20Add%20this%20liquid%20mixture%20to%20the%20cornbread%20mix%20dry%20mix%20bowl.%20Using%20a%20wooden%20spoon,%20stir%20lightly%20just%20until%20combined%20and%20well%20moistened%20to%20form%20a%20batter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20your%20batter%20sit%20while%20you%20heat%202%20inches%20of%20canola%20oil%20in%20a%20large%20pot.%20Heat%20the%20oil%20over%20medium%20heat.%20Let%20your%20oil%20get%20good%20and%20hot.%20Test%20your%20oil%20by%20dropping%20in%20a%20tiny%20bit%20of%20batter.%20When%20it%20bubbles%20around%20the%20batter%20%E2%80%93%20you%E2%80%99re%20ready.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUsing%20a%20tablespoon,%20scoop%20up%20a%20tablespoon%20of%20batter.%20Using%20your%20finger,%20lift%20under%20and%20around%20the%20batter%20sitting%20in%20the%20tablespoon%20to%20make%20it%20easier%20to%20drop%20the%20batter%20in%20the%20oil.%20Cook%203-4%20hush%20puppies%20at%20a%20time,%20for%206%20minutes%20total%20%E2%80%93%203%20minutes%20per%20side.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20cooking,%20drain%20on%20a%20paper%20towel.%20Keep%20them%20warm%20in%20a%20200%20degree%20oven%20until%20all%20your%20batches%20are%20finished.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20warm!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20if%20you%E2%80%99re%20a%20Southerner%20like%20me,%20serve%20them%20with%20butter!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20hush%20puppies%20are%20just%20as%20good%20as%20I%20remembered!%20All%20that%20was%20missing%20was%20a%20big%20pot%20of%20crab%20legs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECrunchy%20on%20the%20outside%20%E2%80%93%20Creamy%20on%20the%20inside%20with%20some%20pepper%20and%20onion%20crunch!%20Next%20time%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20add%20a%20bit%20more%20cheese,%20maybe%201/4%20cup%20and%20see%20if%20the%20batter%20will%20still%20hold.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EALSO%20%E2%80%93%20I%20LOVED%20this%20month%E2%80%99s%20issue%20of%20BHG.%20Seriously.%20I%20could%20live%20in%20that%20magazine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHappy%20Monday%20and%20Happy%20October!%20I%20have%20FIVE%20papers%20due%20this%20week?!%20(Seriously.%20The%20life%20of%20an%20English%20major%20who%E2%80%99s%20cramming%20it%20all%20in%20to%20one%20semester)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20hope%20you%20guys%20have%20a%20great%20day!%20I%E2%80%99m%20headed%20to%20Wilmington%20for%20the%20week%E2%80%A6.say%20it%20with%20me:%20I%20will%20not%20eat%20chips%20on%20my%20drive.%20I%20will%20not%20eat%20chips%20on%20my%20drive.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
