- 1/4 cup (2oz, 60ml) beef stock
- 2 tsp cornstarch (maizena)
- 1 tsp sugar

....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20sucked%20it%20up,%20dashed%20in,%20yanked%20the%20window%20open%20and%20dashed%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20expected%20the%20bat,%20with%20it's%20superior%20echo-locating%20abilities,%20to%20immediately%20notice%20the%20open%20window%20and%20fly%20off%20to%20freedom.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20I%20go%20with%20false%20expectations%20again....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20continued%20to%20fly%20madly%20about%20the%20ceiling.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20turned%20the%20outside%20lights%20on%20and%20the%20bathroom%20lights%20off%20-%20thinking%20maybe%20he%20also%20had%20some%20moth-like%20tendencies%20and%20would%20fly%20towards%20the%20light.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20again,%20wrong.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20a%20few%20minutes,%20when%20I%20checked%20the%20bathroom,%20he%20was%20contentedly%20hanging%20from%20the%20ceiling.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBy%20this%20time%20mon%20mari%20was%20up....%20he%20went%20outside%20and%20opened%20the%20other%20bathroom%20window,%20creating%20a%20nice%20wide%20space%20for%20our%20little%20friend.%20(And%20why%20didn't%20I%20think%20to%20go%20outside%20to%20open%20the%20window?%20Oh,%20yeah,%20right....%20no%20pajamas....%20robe%20being%20guarded%20by%20bat.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20we%20flicked%20all%20of%20the%20lights%20on%20and%20off,%20in%20hopes%20of%20just%20irritating%20him%20into%20leaving.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20did.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20left.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20only%20wish%20I%20knew%20where%20he%20came%20from.....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELast%20year,%20I%20had%20the%20episode%20of%20Things%20that%20go%20Squish%20in%20the%20Night.%20%20Now,%20a%20bat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20really%20need%20to%20make%20this%20house%20more%20secure%20from%20critters.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20the%20other%20hand,%20one%20episode%20a%20year%20is%20not%20all%20that%20bad.....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis,%20on%20the%20other%20hand%20is%20very,%20very%20good:%20a%20hot%20potato%20salad,%20perfect%20for%20cool%20weather.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESlice%20potatoes%20-%20the%20long%20way,%20first%20in%20half,%20then%20in%20half%20again.%20Now%20slice%20(the%20short%20way)%20about%201/4%20inch%20thick.%20We%20are%20aiming%20for%20bite%20size%20so%20if%20you%20have%20a%20huge%20potato,%20adjust%20accordingly.%20Put%20in%20a%20steamer%20basket%20over%20an%20inch%20of%20water%20and%20steam%20over%20medium%20heat%20for%2015%20minutes%20or%20until%20done.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChop%20onion,%20celery%20and%20pickle.%20Saut%C3%A9%20bacon%20in%20oil%20in%20medium%20skillet.%20When%20done%20remove%20and%20set%20on%20paper%20towels%20to%20drain.%20Remove%20all%20but%201%20tbs%20oil%20from%20pan.%20Add%20onions%20and%20celery%20to%20pan%20and%20saut%C3%A9%20until%20tender,%2010%20-%2015%20minutes.%20Add%20sugar,%20stock%20and%20vinegar,%20stirring%20and%20scraping%20up%20any%20brown%20bits%20on%20bottom%20of%20pan.%20Dissolve%20cornstarch%20in%20stock%20and%20add%20to%20pan%20stirring%20constantly%20to%20thicken.%20Add%20pickles%20and%20potatoes%20and%20stir%20gently%20to%20combine.%20Remove%20from%20heat.%20Crumble%20bacon%20and%20add%20to%20potatoes.%20Stir%20to%20mix%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eaddition%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eto%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethis,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Efor%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eweek%20of%20September%2010%20we%20have%20Barbecued%20Salmon,%20Grilled%20Steaks,%20Pizza%20Margerhita,%20Grilled%20Chicken%20Piccata....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThyme%20for%20Cooking%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eis%20a%20Weekly%20Menu%20Planning%20Service%20focusing%20on%20healthy,%20seasonal%20foods.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJoin%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Enow%20and%20try%20it%20free%20for%20a%20week!%20%20The%20menu,%20complete%20recipes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewith%20meal%20preparation%20instructions,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20shopping%20list%20is%20available%20each%20Thursday.%20%20(Reverse%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eseasons%20available%20for%20Australia,%20and%20others%20in%20the%20Southern%20Hemisphere).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDon't%20need%207%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecomplete%20dinners?%20%20Try%20the%20Main%20Course%20Menu%20Mailer%20option:%206%20new%20main%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecourses%20every%20week.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
