%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20adore%20any%20recipes%20containing%20oats%20in%20some%20form,%20and%20I%20am%20also%20a%20huge%20fan%20of%20dried%20fruits%20(except%20for%20apricots%20which%20the%20thought%20of%20sends%20shivers%20down%20my%20spine!)%20and%20in%20the%20past%20have%20often%20spent%20a%20small%20fortune%20on%20shop%20bought%20cereal%20bars,%20despite%20having%20a%20cupboard%20full%20of%20porridge%20oats%20and%20various%20fruits%20and%20nuts...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E..Today%20became%20unexpectedly%20free%20of%20plans,%20and%20whilst%20my%20first%20thought%20was%20shopping,%20my%20bank%20balance%20told%20me%20sternly%20otherwise.%20Then%20I%20thought%20maybe%20a%20nice%20afternoon%20movie%20and%20lounge%20on%20the%20settee....but%20then%20logic%20kicked%20in%20-%20the%20cake%20tin%20was%20empty%20as%20of%20last%20night%20and%20so%20I%20decided%20to%20refill%20it%20instead.%20The%20sofa%20can%20wait%20for%20me!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20initially%20had%20in%20the%20back%20of%20my%20mind%20a%20recipe%20I%20had%20seen%20for%20banana%20and%20date%20bars.%20This%20was%20most%20likely%20due%20to%20the%20fact%20that%20earlier%20in%20the%20week%20I%20had%20picked%20up%20a%20bargainous%20kilo%20box%20of%20Tunisian%20dates%20for%20two%20whole%20pounds,%20so%20I%20have%20more%20than%20a%20few%20to%20spare%20(!),%20along%20with%20several%20ripe%20bananas%20begging%20to%20be%20eaten%20in%20the%20fruit%20bowl.%20Why%20do%20they%20always%20decide%20to%20ripen%20at%20once,%20so%20inconvenient%20haha!%20However%20upon%20reading%20the%20recipe,%20I%20just%20wasn't%20feeling%20the%20love%20and%20did%20a%20little%20searching%20and%20went%20to%20%20my%20old%20favourite%20-%20the%20bbc%20good%20food%20website!%20After%20finding%20a%20suitable%20recipe%20and%20noting%20its%20very%20forgiving%20to%20adjustments%20given%20the%20fact%20I%20didn't%20have%20some%20of%20the%20ingredients,%20I%20promptly%20baked%20a%20batch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20the%20result?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20vow%20never%20to%20buy%20shop%20bought%20bars%20again!%20Why%20have%20I%20waited%20so%20long%20to%20make%20my%20own?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20version%20really%20was%20quite%20different%20in%20the%20end%20but%20worked%20perfectly.%20They%20are%20slightly%20soft%20without%20falling%20apart,%20perfectly%20sweet%20and%20yet%20not%20to%20sweet,%20and%20full%20of%20sticky%20fruit%20and%20oaty%20goodness.%20I%20plan%20to%20leave%20a%20few%20in%20the%20cake%20tin,%20and%20freeze%20the%20rest,%20to%20stop%20me%20eating%20them%20all.%20Will%20let%20you%20know%20if%20it%20works!%20(NB:%20They%20freeze%20beautifully!%20I%20individually%20wrapped%20them%20in%20foil,%20then%20placed%20in%20a%20freezer%20bag)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrom%20the%20original%20recipe%20I%20halved%20the%20butter%20and%20replaced%20it%20with%20mashed%20banana,%20so%20you%20can%20tell%20yourself%20these%20are%20low%20fat%20too.....!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECuts%20into%20twelve%20bars%20of%20loveliness%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPre-heat%20oven%20to%20160o%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEither%20line%20and%20grease%20a%20square%20cake%20pan%20(mine%20was%20a%2020cm%20one)%20or%20even%20easier%20dust%20off%20your%20abandoned%20silicon%20one.%20It%20really%20works%20a%20treat%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGently%20melt%20together%20the%20butter,%20sugar%20and%20golden%20syrup%20until%20all%20nice%20and%20liquid%20and%20the%20sugar%20has%20dissolved.%20Stir%20in%20the%20banana.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20the%20remaining%20ingredients%20and%20fold%20into%20the%20syrupy%20mixture%20-%20a%20silicon%20spatula%20is%20most%20helpful%20here%20until%20all%20nicely%20mixed.%20Press%20into%20your%20pan%20of%20choice%20and%20bake%20for%20a%20little%20over%2030%20minutes%20or%20until%20lightly%20golden%20-%20there%20should%20still%20be%20a%20little%20give%20when%20pressed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELeave%20to%20stand%20for%20five%20minutes%20and%20then%20using%20a%20sharp%20knife%20gently%20cut%20into%20desired%20shapes%20and%20allow%20to%20cool%20for%20a%20further%2015%20minutes%20or%20so%20before%20removing%20to%20a%20cooling%20rack.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
