When I was in culinary school, I remember we had to study cookery vocabulary in French. Words such as Mise en Place (pronounced meez on plahass), Mirepoix (pronounced meer pwah), and Pate' (pronounced pah tay), became a part of my everyday language during the week.
Let me reassure you, there is nothing like seeing the look on your husband's face when you are getting ready to cook a meal at home and you say to him, "I think I'm finished with all my Mise in Place." To which my hubby would reply with a questionable look, "Meeze in what?" Then would ask me to speak in English for all the common folk out there.
Considering France is where everything culinary originated from, it makes sense that they would teach you how to speak the language during cooking school. I still have my textbooks and refer to them every once in a while. I have been known to spew out a few words in French dialect every now and then. You know, just to spice things up a little in the kitchen ;)
Hot chocolate. French hot chocolate to be exact. What a way to end the work week huh? I have never been to France, however, I would like to think that this recipe resembles the way hot chocolate would be made in this part of the world. After taking a few sips of this dreamy concoction, I closed my eyes and pretended I was smack dab in front of the Eiffel Tower. Only to be rudely interrupted by my dog's frantic barking at the bird that was sitting on the top of our fence. Poor mommy (and poor little birdie as well).
This hot chocolate is like no other you have tasted before. Heavy cream, whole milk, a couple of teaspoons of sugar, 1 cup of high quality dark chocolate, and vanilla extract is all you need to make this recipe. The lusciousness of the cream and whole milk, combined with the dark and rich flavor of the chocolate adds a classy and refined taste to drink itself. Upon taking your first sip, don't be surprised if you find yourself mentally transported to this part of the world. If it happened to me, it could very well happen to you ;)
