- In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in hot water. Add in sugar, salt and half of the flour. Beat thoroughly for 2 min. Add in egg and shortening. Fold in remaining flour with spoon or possibly hand till dough is easy to handle. Roll dough into a ball, grease top of ball. Place greased side up in a greased bowl, cover bowl with plastic wrap or possibly foil. Place in refrigerator. Punch down occasionally as dough rises.
- About 2 hrs before baking, cut off amount needed and return rest of dough to refrigerator. Shape while cool into desired rolls. Cover and let rise to double in size, 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 min. Yield: 4 dozen rolls.
