%20%20for%20what%20felt%20like,%20at%20the%20time,%20forever.%20%20I%20have%20no%20air%20conditioning%20-%20and%20really%20neither%20does%20anyone.%20%20Not%20the%20taxi%20driver,%20not%20the%20bus,%20not%20the%20store,%20not%20the%20doctors%20office.%20%20There%20was%20no%20escape%20and%20I%20am%20not%20gonna%20lie,%20it%20kinda%20felt%20like%20hell.%20%20So,%20I%20spent%20the%20whole%20month%20gnawing%20on%20pieces%20of%20fruit,%20drinking%20large%20glasses%20of%20ice%20water,%20and%20sitting%20in%20front%20of%20two%20large%20fans%20with%20ice%20packs%20on%20my%20face.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENormally%20I%20am%20not%20such%20a%20wimp%20about%20the%20heat%20-%20I%20grew%20up%20in%20Houston,%20Texas%20for%20crying%20out%20loud%20and%20survived%20two%20years%20of%20life%20in%20Phoenix,%20Arizona%20and%20four%20months%20in%20India%20with%20the%20heat%20generally%20not%20making%20me%20want%20to%20kill%20myself.%20%20In%20fact,%20I%20used%20to%20kinda%20like%20the%20heat.%20%20It%20was%20different%20this%20time%20though,%20cause%20I'm%20pregnant.%20%20Which%20is%20another%20reason%20I%20didn't%20cook%20a%20damn%20thing%20all%20month.%20%20Because%20really,%20with%20blinding%20nausea%20and%20an%20aversion%20to%20seemingly%20all%20food,%20all%20I%20wanted%20to%20eat%20was%20cold%20cereal%20and%20peaches%20with%20plain%20yogurt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHowever,%20sanity%20has%20been%20restored%20to%20the%20universe.%20%20The%20beautiful%20Berlin%20summer%20is%20here%20-%20blue%20skies%20with%20the%20occasional%20rain%20and%20temps%20more%20around%2078%20-%20%20and%20my%20pregnancy%20symptoms%20are%20starting%20to%20fade.%20So%20now%20I%20can%20actually%20enjoy%20some%20of%20the%20beautiful%20summer%20food%20I%20have%20been%20seeing%20all%20over%20the%20place%20-%20like%20Corn.%20%20I%20re-entered%20the%20kitchen%20with%20a%20super%20quick%20and%20easy%20soup%20(take%20that%20heat!%20soup!)%20which%20I%20had%20been%20craving%20like%20nobody's%20business.%20%20Decent%20fresh%20corn%20is%20not%20as%20readily%20available%20in%20Berlin%20as%20it%20is%20in%20the%20States%20(you%20can%20find%20it,%20but%20I%20couldn't%20on%20the%20day%20that%20I%20decided%20I%20must%20have%20this%20soup)...so%20I%20had%20to%20use%20canned.%20%20But%20no%20matter%20-%20you%20should%20use%20fresh%20sweet%20corn%20from%20the%20cob%20and%20your%20soup%20will%20be%20all%20the%20better%20for%20it%20-%20but%20in%20the%20meantime%20know%20that%20this%20is%20a%20great%20recipe%20that%20can%20be%20made%20year%20round%20with%20canned%20or%20frozen%20corn%20as%20well.%20%20%20Its%20cheap%20and%20quick%20and%20filling%20and%20makes%20a%20great%20late%20summer%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20slices%20bacon%20(or%20more%20if%20you%20really%20feel%20like%20it%20-%20you%20could%20do%20a%20slice%20per%20serving.%20%20this%20recipe%20probably%20makes%204%20to%206%20servings%20depending%20on%20how%20big%20you%20make%20them)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%201/2%20cups%20sharp%20cheddar%20cheese,%20shredded%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Esea%20salt%20and%20fresh%20ground%20pepper%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20blend,%20blend%20half%20of%20the%20corn%20and%201%20cup%20of%20the%20milk%20until%20smooth.%20%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20the%20bottom%20of%20a%20large%20dutch%20oven,%20cook%20the%20bacon%20until%20crispy.%20%20Remove%20and%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20diced%20onion,%20pepper%20and%20celery.%20%20Add%20a%20bit%20of%20salt.%20%20%20Cook%20over%20medium-low%20heat%20until%20the%20onions%20are%20translucent%20and%20the%20veggies%20are%20all%20soft.%20%20%20Add%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20corn%20and%20cook%20for%20another%20couple%20of%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20blended%20corn%20mixture%20and%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20milk.%20%20Slowly%20stir%20in%20the%20shredded%20cheese%20until%20all%20combined.%20%20Taste%20and%20add%20salt%20and%20pepper%20to%20your%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20either%20serve%20it%20as%20is%20-%20thick%20and%20chunky%20or%20you%20can%20blend%20it%20to%20your%20preferred%20consistency%20with%20an%20immersion%20blender.%20%20I%20blended%20it%20just%20a%20tad%20once%20it%20was%20all%20done,%20but%20still%20left%20it%20fairly%20chunky%20and%20thought%20that%20combined%20all%20the%20flavors%20really%20well%20(especially%20the%20celery).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECrumble%20the%20cooked%20bacon%20over%20each%20bowl%20and%20enjoy%20:)%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
