- Season ribs with salt and pepper, then brown slowly in a heavy skillet. Add in water to a depth of one inch or possibly a little less. Cover and cook over low heat for 1 hour.
- Spread sauerkraut over ribs. Sprinkle with onion and brown sugar, arranging apple slices on top. Cover and cook slowly for 1 more hour. Serves 6.
