BEER - time to prowl the best-stocked liquor purveyor you can find.

Jax and Blackened Voodoo are two NO beers. If you can't find these, we suggest a couple of microbrewery stars, your know your area, shop accordingly. Many guests might prefer a 'light' brew, so figure them into your purchase. Some of you are 'keggers' and no suggestion from here will distract you, you know what to get for your crowd.

WINE

Chablis Cassis -

4-1/2 oz Chablis wine, chilled

1/2 tsp Creme de Cassis

lemon peel
-
Pour the Chablis into a champagne glass, add the creme de cassis. Stir gently and add a twist of lemon peel. (serves 1)

Sangria -
-
2 bottles of Burgundy wine
-
1 qt fresh squeezed orange juice
-
3 lemons, juiced
-
5 limes, juiced
-
1 C granulated sugar
-
1 qt club soda
-
slices of orange, lemon and lime for garnish
-
In a large container combine the wine, OJ, lemon and lime juices and sugar. Sitr and chill thoroughly. Add the club soda just before serving. Serve the Sangria in tall glasses over ice garnished with slices of the fruits. Makes 1 gallon.

SERIOUS BEVERAGES - There are many, but we'll start with a couple of the better-known.

Hurricane Punch -

1 (46 oz) can Hawaiian Punch (really)

1 (12oz) can frozen orange juice
-
1 (6oz) can frozen lemonade
-
3/4 C granulated sugar (optional)

amber rum (any brand will do)

orange slices
-
Maraschino cherries
-
crushed ice

In a large pitcher combine the punch, OJ, lemonade and sugar. Fill 16oz glasses with crushed ice and add 4oz of amber rum per glass (this should help you figure how many bottle of rum you will buy). Fill the glasses with the punch mixture. Serve garnished with orange slices and cherries.

Creole Creepers -

1 fifth bourbon (reserve 1/2 C)

1 pint gin

4 (6oz) cans frozen pink lemonade

2 (20oz) cans grapefruit juice

1 (20oz) can pineapple juice
-
3 T grenadine syrup OR honey
-
1 (9oz) jar, Maraschino cherries with stems (reserve the juice)

In a large container combine the bourbon, gin, lemonade, grapefruit juice, pineapple juice and grenadine. Pour the reserved cherry juice into the mixture. Pour the reserved bourbon over the cherries in the jar and marinate them 24 hours. Serve the drink over crushed ice. Top each glass with a marinated cherry. makes 1 gallon.
