%20And%20after%20being%20stuck%20in%20bumper%20to%20bumper%20traffic,%20caused%20by%20the%20first%20snow%20storm%20of%20the%20season,%20for%20two%20hours,%20when%20all%20I%20wanted%20was%20to%20get%20home%20and%20crawl%20into%20bed,%20I%20still%20decided%20to%20make%20dinner.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22What%20do%20you%20mean?%20Is%20it%20not%20good?%20Well,%20I%20like%20it%20and,%20yes,%20I%20am%20planning%20on%20posting%20it.%20%22%20This%20really%20was%20not%20the%20conversation%20I%20wanted%20to%20have%20now.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22I%20like%20it%20too!%20But%20I'm%20not%20sure%20that%20everyone%20would%20consider%20puff%20pastry%20healthy.%20As%20far%20as%20I%20know,%20it's%20made%20with%20a%20lot%20of%20butter.%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20was%20right.%20More%20than%20fifty%20percent%20of%20the%20calories%20in%20puff%20pastry%20is%20in%20the%20form%20of%20fat.%20Your%20arteries%20cringe%20at%20the%20thought,%20don't%20they?%20This%20is%20why%20I%20have%20avoided%20baking%20with%20it%20for%20a%20long%20time,%20opting%20instead%20to%20make%20my%20tart%20and%20pie%20crusts%20from%20scratch%20-%20so%20that%20I%20can%20control%20how%20much%20butter%20goes%20into%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20on%20this%20day,%20I%20had%20purposefully%20planned%20to%20make%20pastry%20tarts%20for%20dinner,%20knowing%20that%20we%20would%20have%20spent%20hours%20skiing.%20Although%20I%20had%20not%20skiied%20before,%20everything%20I%20heard%20and%20read%20about%20it%20prepared%20me%20for%20the%20workout%20it%20was%20supposed%20to%20be.%20Even%20for%20a%20beginner.%20Back%20home%20that%20evening,%20it%20seemed%20that%20my%20body%20was%20just%20too%20heavy%20for%20me.%20It%20wasn't%20that%20any%20particular%20muscle%20hurt%20but%20the%20general%20feeling%20for%20being%20completely%20exhausted.%20I%20couldn't%20think%20of%20a%20better%20time%20to%20have%20a%20rich%20and%20buttery%20dinner:%20after%20a%20vigorous%20workout.%20(I%20deserved%20it%20dammit!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20found%20these%20pre-%20cut,%20single%20serving%20squares%20of%20dough%20on%20my%20last%20grocery%20trip.%20Not%20only%20are%20they%20conveniently%20packaged%20and%20separated%20with%20wax%20paper,%20it%20also%20is%20a%20good%20way%20to%20use%20just%20the%20right%20amount.%20No%20more%20thawing%20the%20entire%20roll%20just%20to%20get%20enough%20for%20one%20tart%20then%20refrezzing%20the%20rest,%20or%20being%20inadvertently%20forced%20to%20use%20up%20the%20roll.%20And%20if%20you're%20counting%20calories,%20each%20square%20is%20two%20hundred%20and%20twenty.%20Maybe%20I'll%20make%20this%20meal%20a%20post-ski%20tradition.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Set%20the%20oven%20to%20400%20degrees%20F.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Cut%20the%20dates%20in%20half,%20discard%20their%20seeds,%20and%20flatten%20slightly%20with%20your%20fingers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Place%20the%20puff%20pastry%20squares%20on%20a%20baking%20sheet,%20spacing%20them%20evenly.%20Spread%20an%20equal%20amount%20of%20the%20cream%20cheese%20unto%20each%20square,%20top%20with%20parmesan%20and%20dates,%20followed%20by%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20and%20the%20almonds,%20if%20using.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Bakes%20for%2015%20to%2020%20minutes%20until%20the%20tarts%20have%20puffed%20up%20and%20are%20golden%20brown.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
