Dark chocolate olive oil cake is easy, healthier, rich and indulgent. A copy of Olive Oil was provided to me by the cookbook authors for purposes of an honest review. Affiliate links have been used in this post to link to items I am discussing.
Trust me to go with the chocolate cake. I receive a cookbook all about the joys of cooking with olive oil, and I head straight for the chocolate.

.%20Cooking%20Techniques%20and%20Recipes%20with%20Olive%20Oil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewas%20written%20by%20a%20friend%20of%20mine,%20Laura%20Bashar%20from%20Family%20Spice,%20and%20Mary%20Platis%20from%20California%20Greek%20Girl.%20Together%20they%20make%20up%20Two%20Extra%20Virgins%20(head%20to%20their%20site%20to%20purchase%20your%20own%20hard%20copy).%20These%20ladies%20are%20serious%20about%20olive%20oil%E2%80%93so%20serious%20they%20skipped%20all%20the%20BS%20and%20self-published%20their%20gorgeous%20book%20(and%20it%20is%20gorgeous%E2%80%93this%20is%20a%20true%20hardback%20cookbook%20filled%20with%20beautiful%20color%20photos)!%20The%20book%20covers%20everything%20from%20poaching%20in%20olive%20oil%20(something%20I%20still%20need%20to%20try)%20to%20braising,%20steaming%20and%20baking%20(among%20more%20typical%20methods%20like%20roasting).%20It%20also%20includes%20dressings%20and%20marinades%E2%80%93and%20even%20has%20a%20cocktail%20made%20with%20olive%20oil!%20And%20when%20I%20say%20olive%20oil,%20I%20am%20of%20course%20only%20talking%20about%20extra%20virgin%20olive%20oil.%20Some%20recipes%20I%20have%20bookmarked%20include%20Whole%20Wheat%20Scones%20with%20Blueberries%20and%20Lavender;%20Chicken%20Kebobs%20with%20Cucumber-Mint%20Barley;%20Lamb%20Shanks%20with%20Rosemary,%20Garlic,%20and%20Gigante%20Beans;%20and%20Olive%20Oil%20and%20Vanilla%20Ice%20Cream%20(confession:%20I%20adore%20olive%20oil%20ice%20creams).%20If%20you%20are%20a%20fan%20of%20the%20olive%20juice,%20this%20is%20a%20book%20for%20you.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20about%20the%20cake.%20Paradoxically,%20I%20almost%20did%20not%20make%20this%20cake.%20Why?%20Because%20in%20the%20cookbook%20they%20make%20it%20topped%20with%20strawberries,%20which%20is%20sinfully%20gorgeous.%20And%20I%20hate%20fruit%20with%20chocolate.%20But%20every%20time%20I%20thought%20about%20making%20the%20cake,%20it%20kind%20of%20killed%20me%20to%20not%20have%20the%20gorgeous%20hillocks%20and%20valleys%20created%20by%20placing%20strawberry%20halves%20across%20the%20top%20of%20the%20cake.%20Finally%20in%20a%20fit%20of%20cake%20obsessed%20desperation%20I%20decided%20I%20was%20being%20silly,%20and%20we%20whipped%20this%20cake%20up%20for%20Alex%E2%80%99s%20friend,%20who%20was%20coming%20to%20spend%20the%20night.%20I%20told%20myself%20oil%20based%20cakes%20are%20extra%20easy%20(absolutely%20true%E2%80%93no%20creaming%20of%20butter%20required%20and%20often%20can%20be%20mixed%20by%20hand)%20and%20that%20it%20would%20be%20fun%20to%20have%20cake%20for%20Alex%E2%80%99s%20friend%20(whom%20I%20knew%20to%20have%20a%20sweet%20tooth)%20and%20to%20just%20make%20the%20darn%20thing%20already.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20so%20glad%20I%20did.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYes%20the%20strawberry%20halves%20are%20breath-taking,%20but%20this%20cake%20is%20delicious%20and%20perfectly%20attractive%20on%20its%20own%20also%20(in%20a%20rustic%20way%E2%80%93which%20is%20my%20favorite%20anyway).%20I%20invited%20the%20girls%20to%20share%20a%20slice%20of%20pre-dinner%20cake%20with%20me%20(it%20was%20so%20I%20could%20take%20pictures!%20Honest!),%20and%20much%20giggling%20ensued%20as%203%20girls%20plus%20myself%20shared%20a%20single%20piece%20of%20cake%20before%20dinner.%20We%20also%20had%20it%20after%20dinner,%20and%20I%20was%20told%20by%20Alex%E2%80%99s%20friend%E2%80%99s%20mom%20that%20her%20daughter%20was%20super%20impressed%20by%20the%20chocolate%20cake%20we%20had%20made.%20And%20seriously%20if%20you%20can%20make%20muffins%20you%20can%20make%20this%20cake.%20And%20have%20super%20impressed%20guests!%20And%20have%20the%20pleasure%20of%20eating%20the%20cake%20yourself!%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20win-win-win!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20are%20curious,%20the%20authors%20suggest%20a%20fruity%20or%20neutral%20olive%20oil.%20For%20myself,%20Zoe%20Extra%20Virgin%20Olive%20Oil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eis%20always%20my%20choice%20for%20baking,%20ever%20since%20my%20sister%20brought%20me%20home%20some%20from%20Spain.%20I%20now%20buy%20it%20at%20Jungle%20Jim%E2%80%99s,%20but%20I%20have%20seen%20it%20at%20most%20Mediterranean%20import%20stores%20and%20if%20you%20follow%20the%20link,%20Amazon%20has%20it%20as%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDark%20Chocolate%20Olive%20Oil%20Cake%20%20%20%20Author:%20TheSpicedLife%20Recipe%20type:%20Dessert%20Cuisine:%20Cakes%20%20%20Ingredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20cup%20AP%20flour%20%C2%BD%20cup%20unsweetened%20dark%20(Dutched)%20cocoa%20powder%202%20t%20baking%20powder%20%E2%85%9B%20t%20salt%20%C2%BE%20cup%20sugar%20%C2%BE%20cup%20nonfat%20Greek%20yogurt,%20plain%203%20large%20eggs%201%20t%20vanilla%20extract%20%C2%BD%20cup%20extra%20virgin%20olive%20oil%20%C2%BE%20cup%20dark%20chocolate%20chips%20(I%20used%20mini%20chips%20because%20they%20sink%20less)%20%20%20Instructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20350%C2%BAF.%20Grease%20a%209-inch%20round%20baking%20pan,%20and%20line%20the%20bottom%20with%20a%20cut-out%20round%20of%20parchment%20paper.%20In%20a%20medium%20bowl%20whisk%20together%20the%20flour,%20cocoa%20powder,%20baking%20powder,%20and%
