My answer for using up the fall harvest of apples is crockpot applesauce. There are many versions of the recipe out there, but experimenting over time, I have come to like this one best. It will keep about one week refrigerated, or several months frozen. Whether you have a few apples or many, this is a good way to make a healthier fruit dessert than pie or cobbler! Cooking apples such as Granny Smith make great applesauce, but a combination of apple varieties - Golden Delicious, Jonathon, Gala, are good too. Mash cooked apple slices to desired texture either chunky or smooth, or puree in food processor for ultimate ease! The amount and type of sweetener is optional. Use all sugar or no sugar, sugar substitutes, honey or brown sugar.
