%20adds%20another%20layer%20of%20thinking%20about%20recipes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20receiving%20the%20celiac%20diagnosis%20five%20years%20ago,%20I've%20been%20planning%20and%20cooking%20meals%20that%20are%20mostly%20gluten-free%20and%20mostly%20pescatarian%20or%20vegetarian,%20including%20our%20family's%20Thanksgiving%20meal,%20but%20this%20year%20I'm%20making%20things%20easier%20on%20myself%20by%20making%20it%20all%20gluten-free.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20that%20I'm%20telling%20my%20holiday%20family%20and%20guests,%20mind%20you.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20will%20let%20the%20vegetarians%20know%20that%20aside%20from%20a%20roast%20turkey%20and%20accompanying%20gravy,%20they%20are%20free%20to%20roam%20the%20Thanksgiving%20table%20without%20fear%20of%20ingesting%20meat.%20And%20I%20will%20whisper%20in%20my%20husband's%20ear%20that%20he%20may%20do%20the%20same%20without%20being%20glutened.%20My%20Thanksgiving%20gift%20to%20him.%20And%20not%20incidentally,%20to%20me,%20as%20the%20Chief%20and%20Crispiest%20of%20Cooks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20still%20plan%20a%20lavish%20spread%20(because%20I%20love%20to%20cook,%20I%20love%20to%20eat,%20I%20love%20to%20have%20leftovers%20during%20a%20busy%20retail%20season%20at%20our%20bookstore,%20because%20I%20have%20teenagers)%20but%20I%20will%20not%20be%20making%20gluten-free%20AND%20Gluteny%20kinds%20of%20stuffings,%20two%20kinds%20of%20desserts,%20etc.%20etc.%20as%20I%20have%20in%20the%20past.%20I%20think%20I%20have%20just%20gotten%20to%20a%20different%20mindset%20about%20cooking%20in%20my%20kitchen%20as%20we%20have%20tried%20to%20transition%20from%20our%20previous%20cooking/eating%20ways%20to%20a%20gluten-free%20lifestyle.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhereas%20right%20after%20the%20G-bomb%20hit%20with%20my%20husband's%20diagnosis%20I%20was%20overwhelmed%20with%20the%20enormity%20of%20having%20to%20retool%20the%20kitchen,%20rethink%20my%20repertoire%20of%20recipes%20and%20cooking%20methods,%20and%20relearn%20how%20to%20bake%20(fuhgeddaboutit!),%20I%20am%20now%20more%20at%20ease%20with%20shopping%20and%20cooking%20gluten-free%20than%20not.%20Weird.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20certainly%20planning%20to%20be%20less%20mentally%20CRISPY%20a%20cook%20when%20I%20am%20putting%20the%20finishing%20touches%20on%20my%20Thanksgiving%20spread%20and%20calling%20everyone%20to%20the%20table.%20If%20anyone%20asks%20about%20whether%20things%20are%20gluten-free%20before%20the%20feasting%20is%20over,%20I%20plan%20to%20get%20a%20distracted%20look%20and%20hurry%20off%20to%20say%20%22I%20forgot%20to%20put%20out%20the%20salt%20and%20pepper%22,%20or%20%22I%20forgot%20to%20turn%20off%20the%20stove%22.%20I%20will%20only%20let%20slip%20that%20the%20entire%20deliciousness%20is%20gluten-free%20after%20the%20fact,%20when%20they%20are%20lulled%20into%20a%20post-prandial%20daze.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAt%20least,%20that's%20my%20devious%20plan.%20Keep%20your%20fingers%20crossed%20for%20me%20on%20my%20secretive%20gluten-free%20guerrilla%20assault%20on%20my%20otherwise%20GF-wary%20diners.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20my%20game%20plan%20for%20a%20totally%20Gluten-Free%20Thanksgiving%20Feast:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENibbles:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20chocolate%20chips%20in%20double%20boiler%20over%20low%20heat.%20Stir%20often.%20When%20chips%20are%20fully%20melted,%20add%20in%20shortening%20as%20needed%20to%20achieve%20a%20runny,%20liquid%20texture.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELine%20a%20cookie%20sheet%20with%20waxed%20paper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHolding%20strawberries%20by%20hulls,%20dip%20in%20melted%20chocolate%20to%20coat%20on%20all%20sides%20except%20hull.%20Place%20gently%20on%20waxed%20paper%20to%20cool.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat's%20it!%20Chill%20when%20cooled.%20You%20can%20also%20get%20fancier%20with%20these%20dessert%20treats%20by%20swirling%20on%20lines%20of%20melted%20white%20chocolate%20or%20dipping%20their%20little%20bottoms%20in%20crushed%20nuts%20while%20they%20are%20still%20warm.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20sending%20this%20Thanksgiving%202010%20post%20over%20to%20Shirley%20at%20Gluten-Free%20Easily,%20whom%20I%20had%20the%20pleasure%20of%20meeting%20in%20person%20recently.%20She%20is%20a%20lovely,%20supersmart%20lady%20who%20shares%20her%20gluten-free%20recipes,%20entertaining%20ideas,%20health%20information%20and%20so%20much%20more%20on%20her%20wonderful%20blog.%20Shirley's%20hosting%20week%202%20of%20a%20Gluten-Free%20Holiday%20series%20sponsored%20by%20Amy%20of%20Simply%20Sugar%20and%20Gluten%20Free%20and%20Shirley's%20theme%20this%20week%20is%20Thanksgiving%20Favorites.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHop%20on%20over%20to%20Gluten-Free%20Easily%20to%20see%20what%20other%20bloggers%20are%20planning%20for%20their%20Turkey%20Day.%20I%20just%20visited%20and%20see%20that%20my%20tentative%20feast%20menu%20may%20be%20subject%20to%20change%20based%20on%20some%20droolworthy%20options%20over%20there.%20You%20can%20also%20leave%20comments%20there%20to%20enter%20to%20win%20some%20wonderful%20cookbooks.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
