Mom’s Cottage Potatoes ~ An Old Family Favorite! Homemade Potato Casserole Loaded with Potatoes & Cheese!

Mom’s recipes are always the best right? I mean you can take that exact recipe and make it, but it never seems to come out right. Anyone else with me on this? I think they leave out that “secret” ingredient that really makes the recipes theirs!

Recently I got my hands on the hub’s mom’s recipes she made when they were young. His mom passed away before I met him and it always breaks my heart that I never got to meet her. In my own way I feel like I’m “connecting” to her through her recipes. We all know my life revolves around recipes right? Plus whenever I mention that I’m making one of these said recipes his entire face lights up! I sure hope my kids have the same reaction to my cooking some day!

I love that recipes are associated with memories and great times in your life. Just making that recipe can bring back these wonderful memories. When I mentioned I was making this recipe my husband actually came into the kitchen and started helping me. Just to get this straight. This does not happen. Ever. I give his mother the credit for finally getting him into the kitchen.

I wish it happened more often because it was great to have some face time with him while we were preparing these “Cottage Potatoes”. I peeled, he sliced the potatoes and we had some down time while Miss K napped to connect. I don’t know about you but these moments are few and far between with a toddler. It was fun to hear him talk about his mom and the memories and he also shared some of his other favorites from childhood. I need to get my hands on those recipes so he’ll come back in the kitchen!
