Coca Cola Chicken Wings
Bake up these crispy Coca Cola Chicken Wings doused in a sweet and spicy sauce that you cook on the stove while the wings back. They are easy, flavorful, and fun for your next party!
Do you ever see those lists on Pinterest such as, A Million Ways to Use Coca-Cola? They include ideas for cleaning your toilet, shining pennies, and getting gum out of your hair. A list like that might make you think twice about drinking this beverage, but I’m crazy so I started to wonder: What if I use Coca-Cola for fun, tasty purposes instead of scary, intimidating ones? I decided to cook up some crispy Coca-Cola Chicken Wings. After all, Coca-Cola has a great, sweet flavor that could potentially be reduced into a thick, delicious sauce. Sounds like a good idea to me!
I’ve seen recipes where chicken wings are baked in a sauce, but I decided to follow Kelly Senyei’s method over at Just a Taste for the crispiest chicken wings ever. She has a great video showing how to lay out your chicken on a cooling rack set above a cooking sheet so you can have all the crispiness without pulling out a deep-fryer. It’s a simple method that really gets the job done!
Unless you buy wings and drumettes already prepared, you’ll need to remove the wing tips and separate the flats from the drumettes. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that show how to do this, but this is the one I followed.
While the wings are baking, the sauce cooks quickly and easily on your stove top. Start with Coca Cola and add brown sugar, onions, garlic, and soy sauce, and salt and pepper. Once it has reduced by half, strain out the onions and garlic and add corn starch to thicken. So simple! Brush over your crispy chicken for a fun, interesting appetizer or entrée that is sure to please your friends and family!

- ½ tsp. onion powder
- 1 (12 oz.) can Coca-Cola
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 T. soy sauce
- 1-2 T. corn starch
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
Move an oven rack to the middle position and preheat oven to 400°F. Arrange cooling racks over baking sheets lined with foil.
To prepare the wings, remove the wing tips; separate the flats from the drumettes. In a large bowl, combine wings with 1 T. vegetable oil, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss until evenly coated. Arrange wings in a single layer on cooling racks
Bake until wings are crispy, about 45 minutes, rotating baking sheets halfway through.
With 30 minutes of baking time left, heat Coca-Cola, brown sugar, onion, garlic, soy sauce in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until reduced by half, about 20 minutes.
Strain onions and garlic out through a fine mesh sieve and return the sauce to the stovetop. Stir in cornstarch, 1 T. at a time, and heat until thickened, about 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Remove the chicken wings from the oven and toss with the sauce while hot.
