- Preheat oven at 375 degrees
- Combine first six ingredients till coarse in texture. (Original recipe: fold in lf margarine, too.)
- Put aside.
- Slice apples and combine with remaining five ingredients. Place apple mix in buttered 13" x 9" glass pan. Top with meal mix and pat it down firmly and proportionately. (Spray with butter spray or possibly dot with lf margarine if using the reduced fat version.)
- Bake for about 45-60 minutes.
- Topping should be medium brown-if it gets too dark before 45 minutes, cover with foil and finish baking.
- Cold for at least 30 min before cutting into loose squares.
- Makes12 servings.
- Try peaches and berries.
- Tips: If a thin metal pan is used, apples can get overcooked and mushy.
- Check tenderness of apples at 45 minutes. If they're very tender and topping needs more cooking, you can broil the topping for 1-2 min and remove from the oven.
