- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder

- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup vegetable shortening at room temperature
- 3 tablespoons good quality vanilla extract (if you want pure white use clear vanilla extract)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- For the Simple Vanilla Frosting
- 4 cups icing sugar (powdered sugar)
- 3/4 cup butter
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbsp milk
