The June 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Dawn of Doable and Delicious. Dawn challenged the Daring Bakers’ to make Chocolate Pavlovas and Chocolate Mascarpone Mousse. The challenge recipe is based on a recipe from the book Chocolate Epiphany by Francois Payard.
How suitable that the the first Daring Bakers' Challenge that I am privy to is a pavlova. You see, I have always considered my chocolate angel pie to be my signature dessert and the similarities are...well, see for yourself.

%20overnight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYay!%20I%20found%20some%20decent%20chocolate%20at%20Trader%20Joe's.%20I%20used%206%20bars%20(a%20little%20over%209%20oz).%20Instead%20of%20melting%20the%20chocolate%20in%20a%20pan,%20I%20microwaved%20it%20for%20about%20a%20minute%20and%20twenty%20seconds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipe%20provided%20called%20for%201%203/4%20cups%20mascarpone.%20Yikes!%20That%20stuff%20is%20a%20little%20pricey.%20Plus,%20it%20sounded%20like%20an%20awful%20lot,%20especially%20if%20you%20were%20supposed%20to%20use%20it%20in%20the%20sauce%20on%20top,%20too.%20I%20ended%20up%20getting%20just%20one%208%20oz.%20container%20and%20combining%20it%20with%204%20oz.%20of%20softened%20cream%20cheese.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20did%20add%20the%20Grand%20Marnier....love%20the%20stuff!%20Next%20time,%20I'll%20add%20some%20fresh%20orange%20zest,%20too.%20The%20chocolate%20in%20this%20is%20so%20intense,%20the%20orange%20flavor%20was%20a%20little%20lost.%20I%20whipped%20up%20%208%20oz%20of%20heavy%20cream%20with%202%20tablespoons%20of%20powdered%20sugar,%20folded%20this%20into%20the%20mascarpone%20mixture,%20and%20then%20folded%20it%20all%20into%20the%20chocolate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20I%20filled%20the%20meringue%20with%20the%20chocolate%20mascarpone,%20I%20put%20some%20plastic%20wrap%20on%20it%20and%20chilled%20it%20for%20a%20few%20hours.%20In%20the%20mean%20time,%20I%20whipped%20up%20some%20Creme%20Anglaise%20(just%20a%20fancy%20name%20for%20custard%20sauce).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20basically%20used%20the%20recipe%20provided%20for%20this,%20only%20adjusting%20the%20amounts.%20Since%20I%20used%204%20egg%20whites%20in%20the%20meringue,%20I%20used%20the%204%20yolks%20for%20the%20custard%20and%20adjusted%20the%20milk%20to%201%203/4%20cups.%20That's%20a%20vanilla%20bean%20in%20the%20picture....it%20really%20added%20a%20wonderful%20flavor.%20Since%20I%20only%20bought%20the%20one%20container%20of%20mascarpone,%20I%20omitted%20it%20from%20the%20topping%20altogether;%20I%20simply%20whipped%20up%20another%208%20oz%20of%20heavy%20cream%20with%20a%20little%20powdered%20sugar%20and%20folded%20it%20into%20the%20Creme%20Anglaise.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOK...so%20the%20whole%20family%20raved%20about%20this%20%22new%22%20angel%20pie.%20The%20husband%20(who%20doesn't%20like%20meringue)%20liked%20the%20chocolate%20version,%20and%20the%20daughter%20(and%20her%20friends)%20couldn't%20get%20enough%20of%20the%20chocolate%20mascarpone....fudgy,%20they%20said.%20And%20me---I%20adored%20the%20custard%20sauce%20on%20top%20of%20the%20deep%20chocolate%20filling.%20I%20sprinkled%20a%20little%20orange%20zest%20on%20the%20top,%20mainly%20for%20aesthetics,%20but%20it%20ended%20up%20giving%20it%20even%20a%20little%20more%20flavor.%20%20Definitely%20a%20keeper,%20this%20recipe.%20I'm%20liking%20this%20Daring%20Bakers'%20thing.....%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
