Cherry Turnovers~

My sister Jan and my brother Jim share a birthday. They were both born on the same day, February 22nd but they are 7 years apart! Feb.22nd is also George Washington's Birthday. To honor George Washington, and because it is said that he chopped down a cherry tree, my Mom would make my sister a white layer birthday cake with cherries. Between the layers of cake, she put a layer of cool whip, and a layer of canned cherry pie filling. Then she would frost the entire cake with more cool whip and top the cake with cherry pie filling. I still make this cake, exactly as my Mom did. I think she called it; "Cherries on a Cloud" cake. For my brother, she would make a Door County Cherry Pie. To this day, cherry pie with vanilla ice cream is my favorite! My sister-in-law makes my brother a cherry pie every year on his birthday!! This fall they will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary! That is a lot of pies, Theresa!! Today I am going to make cherry turnovers~ Nice and easy and Oh so good!! Happy Birthday George, Happy Birthday Jan and Happy Birthday Jim:)

In small bowl combine frosting with half and half or cream. Stir until blended.

Line baking sheet with parchment paper or grease lightly. Set aside.

Separate biscuits; cut each biscuit in half horizontally. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece of biscuit dough into a 4-inch circle. Place about 1 tablespoon pie filling onto half of each circle. Fold opposite side of circle up and over filling. Brush edges with a little milk; seal edges with a fork.

Place filled turnovers 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheets; brush with half and half.

Bake at 350 for 12-15 mins or until golden brown Remove from baking sheet. Cool slightly on a wire rack. Drizzle with frosting.

Note: I used pink colored vanilla frosting left over from Valentine's Day. Note: Turnovers can also be deep fried in hot oil.
