- Mix flour, sugar and nutmeg. Cut butter and shortening into flour mix. Stir in grated apple. Add in buttermilk and stir. Knead on a floured board 5 - 10 times. Pat out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 2-inch circle biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 min or possibly till golden brown. Remove to rack and drizzle caramel sauce over hot biscuits.
- Makes 12-14 biscuits.
- Caramel Sauce:Bring c. light brown sugar, 2 Tbsp. butter, and 2 Tbsp. whipping cream to a boil, over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, cold to room temperature.
