%20I%20decided%20to%20make%20some%20bird%20nests%20using%20the%20recipe%20for%20butterscotch%20chow%20mien%20noodle%20haystacks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20form%20the%20bird%20nests,%20I%20put%20them%20in%20mini-muffin%20tins.%20Using%20the%20tins%20allowed%20me%20to%20have%20a%20more%20uniform%20size%20than%20what%20I%20could%20have%20achieved%20by%20creating%20them%20freehand%20on%20a%20wax%20paper%20lined%20baking%20sheet,%20which%20I%20also%20did.%20(There%20is%20one%20freehand%20made%20next%20in%20the%20above%20picture).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20added%20miniature%20marshmallows%20to%20my%20chow%20mien%20noodles%20and%20melted%20butterscotch%20chips,%20but%20you%20could%20omit%20them.%20Or,%20you%20could%20add%20peanuts%20or%20cashews%20along%20with/instead%20of%20the%20marshmallows.%20It%20is%20a%20flexible%20recipe%20that%20you%20can%20make%20your%20own.%20I%20know%20there%20are%20more%20complex%20versions%20of%20this%20recipe%20that%20also%20use%20peanut%20butter,%20etc.%20but%20this%20is%20the%20simple%20one%20my%20mom%20used.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20to%20keep%20it%20really%20simple,%20you%20can%20always%20just%20omit%20the%20egg%20candy%20and%20just%20make%20simple%20haystacks.%20Haystacks%20were%20something%20that%20usually%20appeared%20at%20Christmas%20around%20our%20house.%20The%20egg%20nests%20are%20really%20cute%20for%20spring%20parties,%20Easter,%20and%20baby%20showers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMuch%20to%20my%20surprise,%20I%20discovered%20my%20husband%20had%20never%20had%20this%20sweet,%20crunch%20candy%20in%20either%20form.%20He%20really%20likes%20butterscotch%20and%20he%20loved%20this%20treat.%20I%20do%20think%20that%20if%20you%20love%20butterscotch%20you%20will%20love%20this%20candy%E2%80%A6even%20if%20you%20make%20them%20for%20absolutely%20no%20occasion%20like%20I%20did.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe:%20Butterscotch%20Bird%20Nests%20or%20Haystacks%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20butterscotch%20morsels%20in%20a%20bowl%20over%20a%20pot%20with%20boiling%20water%20or%20a%20double%20boiler.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStir%20in%20chow%20mein%20noodles%20,%20marshmallows,%20and/or%20nuts%20until%20well%20coated%20in%20butterscotch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20bird%20nests,%20drop%20spoonfuls%20into%20mini-muffin%20tins%20that%20have%20been%20lightly%20sprayed%20with%20non-stick%20cooking%20spray.%20Or,%20drop%20onto%20baking%20sheet%20lined%20with%20wax%20paper%20and%20form%20into%20nest%20by%20hand.%20Place%20egg%20shaped%20candy%20in%20center%20while%20the%20butterscotch%20is%20still%20warm.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20haystacks,%20drop%20by%20spoonfuls%20onto%20wax%20paper%20lined%20baking%20sheet%20mounding%20the%20mixture%20to%20a%20point%20to%20look%20like%20a%20haystack,%20if%20desired.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECopyright%20%C2%A9%202015.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe%20by%20Paula,%20A%20Simple%20Home%20Cook.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
