.%20This%20is%20not%20a%20bad%20thing.%20However,%20when%20the%20inevitable%20switch%20from%20the%20stock%20tire%20to%20the%20higher%20quality%20BF%20Goodrich%20tire%20came,%20I%20based%20my%20sizing%20off%20the%2018%E2%80%B3%20wheel.%20This%20meant%20that%20the%20largest%20tire%20I%20could%20get%20was%20the%2035%E2%80%B3%20tire.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20visiting%20the%20Overland%20Expo,%20I%20realized%20I%20had%20made%20a%20mistake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDespite%20the%20increased%20performance%20and%20traction%20of%20the%2035%C3%9712.5%2018%20BFG%20AT,%20I%20was%20missing%20one%20very%20important%20quality%20that%20I%20longed%20for%20in%20our%20family%20truck.%20Dampening.%20When%20driving%20off%20of%20the%20pavement,%20you%20run%20into%20variables%20most%20people%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20are%20there%20and%20don%E2%80%99t%20even%20consider.%20When%20Samuel%20F.%20B.%20Morse%20helped%20make%20his%20contribution%20to%20the%20telegraph%20in%20the%20mid%2019th%20century,%20he%20certainly%20didn%E2%80%99t%20intend%20for%20Morse%20code%20to%20be%20sent%20from%20the%20road%20via%20vibration%20to%20the%20passenger%20of%20a%20motor%20vehicle%E2%80%99s%20teeth.%20That,%20however,%20is%20what%20we%20experienced.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20learned%20that%20with%20a%20larger%20tire%20and%20smaller%20wheel%20(rim)%20you%20can%20let%20out%20some%20of%20the%20air%20and%20increase%20the%20sponginess%20of%20the%20tire,%20thus%20reducing%20the%20roughness%20of%20the%20ride.%20What%20was%20even%20more%20surprising%20to%20me%20was%20that%20letting%20out%20some%20air%20can%20increase%20tire%20traction%20performance%20up%20to%20around%20250%25.%20This%20is%20due%20to%20the%20lower-pressured%20tire%20having%20more%20contact%20with%20the%20ground.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20chattering%20of%20my%20mandible%20helped%20me%20discover%20that%20our%20friends%20at%20BF%20Goodrich%20did%20make%20a%20perfectly-proportionate%20tire%20for%20my%20truck.%20The%20all%20new%20BFG%20All%20Terrain,%20which%20came%20in%20a%2037%E2%80%B3.%20This%20tire%20had%2020%25%20better%20sidewall%20strength%20and%20improved%20longevity.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHowever,%20it%20required%20a%2017%E2%80%B3%20wheel.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFortunately%20for%20me,%20I%20get%20all%20my%20tire%20and%20wheel%20work%20done%20by%20our%20sponsor%20over%20at%20Discount%20Tire.%20Their%20in-house%20wheels%20are%20great%20looking%20and%20inexpensive.%20I%20stayed%20with%20the%20Discount%20Tire%20MB%20Wheel%20series%20and%20with%20the%20matte%20black%20style,%20but%20offset%20my%20wheels%20to%20-12%20this%20time%20so%20they%20would%20stand%20outside%20the%20fender%20just%20a%20bit%20more.%20With%20that%20small%20change,%20my%20new%20and%20larger%20tires%20had%20more%20room%20to%20turn.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnother%20fun%20fact%20I%20learned%20is%20that%20Discount%20Tire%20will%20actually%20deliver%20their%20tires%20and%20wheels%20directly%20to%20you.%20This%20way,%20you%20can%20get%20your%20things%20in%20order%20before%20heading%20down%20to%20the%20store.%20If%20you%20live%20rurally%20like%20we%20do,%20it%20also%20means%20that%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20make%20unnecessary%20trips%20into%20the%20store%20fronts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFinally,%20I%20learned%20I%20may%20have%20chosen%20an%20onboard%20air%20compressor%20that%20was%20a%20tad%20small%20for%20what%20I%20wanted%20to%20do.%20This%20was%20easier%20to%20remedy.%20The%20air%20compressor%20is%20simply%20the%20tank%20that%20fills%20your%20air%20with%20tires,%20so%20we%20worked%20with%20VIAIR%20to%20upgrade%20our%20system%20to%20the%20larger-capacity%20444C%20with%20dual%20compressors.%20This%20decreased%20our%20fill%20times%20offroad%20significantly,%20which%20is%20good%20since%20Chelsea%20prefers%20to%20spend%20time%20in%20the%20air%20conditioning%20as%20opposed%20to%20outside%20filling%20up%20tires.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20kidding.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESort%20of.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHands%20down,%20this%20upgrade%20was%20the%20best%20move%20I%20could%20have%20made.%20We%20noticed%20an%20immediate%20improvement%20in%20the%20way%20the%20Bear%20handled%20offroad%20during%20our%20first%20trip%20to%20the%20Sierras.%20I%20was%20happy%20that%20airing%20down%20was%20not%20only%20possible,%20but%20with%20the%20larger%20tire%20and%20smaller%20wheel,%20I%20was%20able%20to%20do%20it%20more%20effectively.%20And%20with%20BF%20Goodrich%E2%80%99s%20new%20All%20Terrain,%20even%20the%20edges%20of%20the%20tires%20had%20a%20grip%20on%20the%20ground.%20The%20traction%20was%20tremendous%20and%20the%20ride%20was%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWith%20the%20VIAIR%20onboard%20compressor,%20it%E2%80%99s%20like%20I%20have%20my%20own%20mini%20Discount%20Tire%20built%20right%20into%20my%20truck.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
