- Bring 1-1/2 qts water to boil in a saucepan. Add in ribs, anise, shao xing, ginger, and garlic; sover and simmer 1-1/2 hrs. Add in soy sauce, sugar and 1/2 Tbsp. salt; partially cover and simmer till the meat is tender, about one hour longer. Remove meat; cover and keep hot. Simmer sauce till it reduces to a thin syrup, about five min. Return ribs to the saucepan; toss to coat.
