%20in%20collaboration%20with%20Penguin%20India%20/%20DK%20Books.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVikas%20Khanna%20is%20a%20Michelin%20starred%20Chef.%20As%20a%20judge%20on%20Masterchef%20India%20and%20Junior%20Masterchef%20India%20he%20is%20now%20a%20well%20recognised%20name%20and%20face%20in%20most%20foodie%20households%20in%20India.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipes%20in%20%22Young%20Chefs%22%20are%20well%20illustrated%20with%20a%20lot%20of%20them%20following%20a%20photographic%20step-by-step%20format,%20which%20makes%20them%20easy%20to%20follow%20for%20kids%20(they%20can%20check%20the%20pictures%20to%20verify%20consistency,%20texture%20and%20colour).%20I%20personally%20think%20that%20the%20first%20few%20pages%20are%20the%20most%20helpful%20section%20of%20the%20book.%20They%20include%20a%20photographic%20index%20of%20cooking%20tools,%20preparing%20ingredients%20and%20ways%20to%20cook%20&%20bake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20book%20is%20divided%20into%205%20main%20sections%20%E2%80%93%20breakfast%20bites,%20lunchbox,%20main%20meals,%20drinks,%20and%20sweet%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etreats.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEach%20recipe%20clearly%20mentions%20number%20of%20portions,%20prep%20time,%20cooking%20time%20and%20a%20lot%20of%20them%20also%20itemise%20the%20tools%20needed%20for%20each%20recipe%20to%20be%20prepared.%20I%20think,%20that%20is%20a%20wonderful%20idea%20for%20young%20cooks,%20so%20they%20can%20have%20all%20their%20tools%20ready%20along%20with%20their%20ingredients.%20Some%20recipes%20also%20have%20doodles%20of%20the%20ingredients%20and%20tools%20used.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20is%20also%20a%20warning%20sign%20(white%20exclamation%20mark%20in%20a%20red%20triangle)%20against%20recipes%20/%20steps%20which%20involve%20hot%20ovens,%20hobs,%20or%20sharp%20implements.%20Depending%20on%20the%20age%20of%20your%20child%20you%20can%20interpret%20it%20to%20mean%20adult%20help%20or%20adult%20supervision.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20recipes%20range%20from%20simple%20boiled%20eggs%20and%20eggy%20bread%20(French%20Toast)%20to%20Sweet%20Corn%20Fritters,%20Chilly%20Paneer,%20Veg%20Lasagna%20and%20Chicken%20Tikka%20Masala.%20The%20recipes%20aren't%20restricted%20to%20Indian%20staples,%20they%20come%20from%20all%20across%20the%20globe.%20But%20they%20are%20all%20dishes%20that%20are%20exciting%20for%20young%20chefs%20to%20cook%20or%20eat.%20Fun%20facts%20and%20tips%20accompany%20some%20recipes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIts%20a%20lovely%20book%20to%20introduce%20a%20young%20chef%20to%20the%20pleasures%20of%20cooking,%20but%20there%20are%20a%20few%20things,%20I%20hope%20they%20can%20take%20care%20of%20in%20the%20next%20book.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-%20The%20recipes%20for%20crepes%20and%20pancakes%20are%20combined%20on%20one%20page%20in%20a%20manner%20which%20I%20think%20may%20cause%20some%20confusion%20for%20a%20novice%20cook.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-%20The%20recipe%20for%20cheese%20&%20pesto%20straws%20calls%20for%20cooked%20shredded%20chicken%20breast%20in%20its%20ingredients%20but%20isnt%20used%20in%20the%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-%20On%20the%20page%20with%204%20ways%20with%20kebabs%20-%20the%20non%20veg%20kebabs%20have%20a%20prep%20time%20of%2020%20minutes,%20but%20the%20prep%20time%20for%20the%20tofu%20chunks%20is%2080%20minutes.%20I%20later%20realised%20they%20had%20clubbed%20the%20marination%20time%20with%20prep%20time,%20but%20it%20was%20only%20for%20this%20recipe%20and%20not%20the%20other%203.%20Some%20standardisation%20will%20need%20to%20be%20maintained.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20other%20concerns%20with%20this%20book%20are:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-%20Some%20ingredients%20like%20yellow%20cherry%20tomatoes,%20smoked%20haddock%20and%20baby%20leaf%20spinach%20are%20difficult%20to%20find%20even%20in%20a%20larger%20Indian%20metro%20cities.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-%20Most%20recipes%20call%20for%20canned%20tomatoes%20and%20chickpeas%20and%20other%20ingredients.%20Given%20the%20availability%20of%20fresh%20ingredients%20in%20India%20and%20the%20side%20effects%20of%20preservatives%20and%20sodium%20in%20canned%20products,%20I%20would%20like%20to%20see%20an%20alternative%20with%20fresh%20produce%20listed%20alongside%20the%20canned%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-%20The%20kids%20pictured%20in%20the%20recipes%20look%20so%20clean%20and%20neat,%20i%20don't%20know%20many%20young%20chefs%20who%20are%20so%20spotlessly%20clean%20when%20cooking.%20a%20slightly%20messy%20apron%20seems%20more%20natural%20to%20me%20than%20the%20pristine%20cleanliness%20pictured.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHowever,%20these%20are%20more%20minor%20personal%20peeves%20than%20a%20vote%20against%20the%20book.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20honestly%20think%20that%20its%20a%20great%20collection%20of%20recipes%20to%20get%20a%20young%20chef%20started.%20Its%20a%20lovely%20gift%20to%20present%20to%20a%20young%20kid%20and%20I%20hope%20the%20next%20edition%20takes%20care%20of%20the%20little%20oversights%20in%20this%20edition.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20Chef%20Vikas%20Khanna%20says%20in%20his%20introduction%20%22Here's%20to%20the%20future%20Michelin%20star%20chef!%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERating%20:%203.8%20/%205%3C/p%3E%3Cp%
