  • 5 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 c. crisco shortening
  • 1 lrg egg (mixed with sufficient water to make 3/4 c.)

  1. I can guarantee which the bottom crust will be as flaky as the top crust. It's a BIG hit around here! Try it, it's SUPER flaky... Mix together the flour and salt; cut in the shortening till it resembles tiny peas. Add in sufficient water to the egg to make 3/4 c. of liquid (I used Cool water). Add in to the flour mix and blend till dough holds together. The recipe didn't say to refrigeratethe dough but I did anyway.. habit. Not only is this crust SUPER FLAKY but it's VERY easy to work with. I've never achieved a finer crust. Try it, TRUST ME, it's wonderful!
  2. This recipe is suppose to make 3 double pie crusts, I'm not sure. I got one double pie crust & made 12 small apricot tarts with the rest of it.
