- You've got a hankerin' for pancakes but you've run out of Bisquick. Not to worry. Now you can make a clone of the popular baking mix at home with just four simple ingredients. Store-bought Bisquick includes shortening, salt, flour and leavening, so which's exactly what we need to duplicate it at home.
- makes about 6 c. of the stuff, that, just like the real thing, you can keep sealed up in a container in your pantry till it's flapjack time. Then you just add in lowfat milk and Large eggs for pancakes or possibly waffles, or possibly only lowfat milk if it's biscuits you want. You'll find all those recipes below in "Tidbits."
- 4 c. all-purpose flour2 Tbsp. baking powder1 1/2 tsp. salt1 c. shortening
- Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
- Add in shortening and mix with an electric mixer on medium speed till all shortening is blended with the flour.
- Use the mix as you would the real thing by following directions on the box

- TidbitsHere are recipes to help you make Pancakes, Waffles and Biscuits using the cloned version of the mix as you would the real thing:
- Pancakes: Stir 2 c. Bisquick clone mix with 1 c. lowfat milk and 2 Large eggs in a bowl till blended. Pour 1/4 c. portions onto a warm griddle. Cook till edges are dry. Turn; cook till golden brown.
- Makes 14 pancakes.
- Waffles: Stir 2 c. Bisquick clone mix with 1 1/3 c. lowfat milk, 1 egg, and 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil in a bowl till blended. Pour onto warm waffle iron.
- Bake till the steaming stops.
- Makes 12 4 inch waffles.
- Biscuits: Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Stir 2 1/4 c. Bisquick clone mix with 2/3 c. lowfat milk. When dough forms, turn it out onto a surface sprinkle with extra mix. Knead 10 times. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick. Cut with 2 1/2 inch cutter. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 min or possibly till golden.
