Рецепт Baked Tomatoes with Ham and Egg; raw milk machine
Taking a picture of an empty cornfield isn't very interesting....
But, this wheat field that borders our property shows just how damaging our furry friends have been:
There should have been wheat right up to the edge of the field on the left. The bunnies have kept it well-grazed all along the perimeter. They don't bother plants once they're above a certain height, but they keep grazing the stubble, preventing it from growing.
As long as I'm doing random photos.....
We have a new milk machine!
This cute little kiosk is at the entrance of the supermarket I shop at. It sells fresh, raw milk.
Note the cow...
You can't tell, because of the reflection on the glass, but on the left, in the stainless steel and glass part, are litre bottles. You put your money in and an empty bottle is dispensed. One then takes the empty bottle, lifts the little door on the other side, sets the bottle in and the milk is dispensed.
Now I can buy raw milk, regular milk and long-life milk with only one stop.... (Except I refuse to buy the long-life.)
As soon as life settles down a bit I'm going to try making some fresh cheeses.
Maybe they'll add a machine for fresh goat's milk, too.
Mother nature is being very capricious here.... Two days of hot summer followed by 3 days of cold rain.
This is what happens to a Caprese Salad when the weather turns so cold I have to turn on the oven to heat the kitchen.
- Baked Tomato with Ham and Egg for two
- 2 tomatoes
- 4oz (125gr) ham
- 2oz (60gr) fresh mozzarella
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbs fresh chives
2 small baking dishes
Thickly slice tomatoes. Cube the ham. Cut the cheese into small pieces.
Put 3 slices of tomato in each dish. Divide the ham and cheese and place on tomatoes. Bake for 10 minutes at 400F (200C).
While they bake, poach 2 eggs.
Remove dishes, place a poached egg in each one, top with chives and serve.
It's a good thing we have the barn - mon mari can still wield the tongs over the barbecue, inside, when it rains.
