I tend to really like most recipes for spareribs, however, this one really takes the cake and it is so easy, it really should be illegal. I find that minus the meat, I usually have most items on hand so it makes for a fast and fairly inexpensive meal. I do love the recipes that slow cook for hours or marinate overnight, but when time is of the essence, give these a try…
Baked Spareribs
Ingredients:
- 6 pounds spareribs-cut into 2 bone sections
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 medium onion-finely diced
- 1 stalk celery-finely diced
- 1 red pepper-finely diced
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- Dash of salt
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place ribs, bone side down in a shallow roasting pan. Bake, uncovered for 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, heat butter over medium-high heat. Add the onion, celery and red pepper; cook and stir for 5 minutes or until tender. Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Set aside.
Pour the sauce over the ribs and bake for an additional 45 minutes, uncovered.
