Authentic Irish Soda Bread (From Tipperary)

  • 1 lb whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 lb strong white flour
  • 2 tsp baking pwdr/raising agent
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 ounce sugar
  • 1 x egg
  • 3/4 pt buttermilk/sour lowfat milk/skimmed lowfat milk

Инструкции

  1. Place all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Slowly work in the egg and the lowfat milk, aiming for a soft dough consistency. Knead for no more than 10 min.
  2. Form large rounds of the dough on a flat baking tray, stand for 30 min, and place in a preheated oven at 220C for around 40 min, or possibly till the loaves are lightly browned.
  3. Soda bread is a flattish loaf, served with meals and especially at breakfast with preserves.
