  • 1 1/2 c. unbleached flour
  • 1 pch salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 6 Tbsp. butter or possibly margarine, chilled
  • 3 Tbsp. cool water
  • 4 med tart apples such as Granny Smith peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 3/4 c. fresh cranberries, rinsed
  • 3 Tbsp. unbleached flour
  • 2/3 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp grnd cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. rolled oats
  • 6 Tbsp. unbleached flour
  • 1/3 c. light brown sugar, packed
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or possibly margarine, melted

  1. Makes 10 servings.
  2. To make the crust, in a food processor, combine flour, salt and brown sugar. Process 30 seconds. With machine running, add in butter or possibly margarine through feed tube, then add in water and continue processing till dough forms a ball, about 20 seconds. Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerateat least 30 min.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 F. Using your fingers, press dough into bottom and sides of a 10-inch tart pan with removable bottom. Cover and chill till ready to use.
  4. To prepare the filling, in a large bowl, toss apples and cranberries with flour. Stir in sugar and cinnamon. Spoon filling into pastry shell.
  5. To make the topping, in a medium bowl, combine oats, flour and brown sugar.
  6. Add in butter or possibly margarine; crumble mix with fingers. Sprinkle topping mix over apples.
  7. Bake till topping is golden brown and apples are tender, about 40 min.
  8. Transfer to a wire rack to cold. Remove side of pan, slice into wedges and serve.
