%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20better%20to%20go%20with%20this%20meal%20than%20biscuits.%20%20%20I%20had%20some%20buttermilk%20in%20the%20fridge%20so%20I%20decided%20to%20whip%20up%20some.%20%20%20My%20mom%20makes%20a%20version%20of%20these%20but%20I%20found%20my%20recipe%20in%20my%201976%20The%20Dallas%20Jr.%20League%20Cookbook.%20%20(Remember%20my%20rant%20last%20week%20%E2%80%9CHas%20the%20internet%20taken%20the%20fun%20out%20of%20cooking?%E2%80%9C?%20%20%20I%20decided%20to%20vow%20to%20use%20at%20least%20one%20post%20a%20week%20to%20highlight%20a%20recipe%20from%20one%20of%20my%20many%20cookbooks.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20my%20classics.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20always%20thought%20biscuits%20were%20a%20hassle,%20but%20I%20basically%20dumped%20everything%20in%20the%20food%20processor.%20%20This%20was%20pretty%20easy-peasy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20took%20this%20heirloom%20recipe%20(attributed%20to%20%E2%80%9CThe%20Cookbook%20Committee%E2%80%9D),%20halved%20it,%20and%20updated%20the%20directions.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAngel%20Biscuits%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20400%20degrees.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20flour,%20sugar,%20baking%20powder,%20baking%20soda,%20and%20salt%20in%20the%20bowl%20of%20a%20food%20processor%20equipped%20with%20the%20blade.%20%20%20Pulse%20two%20or%20three%20times%20to%20mix%20these%20dry%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20shortening%20and%20process%20until%20crumbly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDissolve%20yeast%20in%20warm%20water.%20%20Let%20set%20five%20minutes.%20%20%20Add%20yeast%20and%20buttermilk%20to%20flour/shortening%20mixture%20and%20pulse%20until%20incorporated.%20%20%20Do%20not%20over%20mix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDump%20contents%20on%20a%20floured%20surfaces%20and%20knead%20briefly%20to%20make%20sure%20it%20is%20all%20mixed.%20%20%20Roll%20out%20to%20about%203/4%20%E2%80%9D%20and%20cut%20with%20a%20biscuit%20cutter.%20%20(Or,%20in%20my%20case%20a%20jar%20ring.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20can%20never%20find%20the%20biscuit%20cutter!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20biscuits%20on%20a%20prepared%20baking%20sheet.%20%20%20Top%20each%20biscuit%20with%20melted%20butter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EReady%20for%20the%20oven!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20in%20oven%20and%20bake%20for%2015%20minutes.%20%20%20Remove%20from%20oven%20and%20brush%20with%20the%20remaining%20butter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EReady%20for%20more%20butter%20and%20jam.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20are%20just%20slightly%20salty%20and%20sweet%20and%20very%20delicate.%20%20%20We%20loved%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(They%20were%20also%20delicious%20for%20breakfast%20the%20next%20morning%20with%20melted%20butter%20and%20homemade%20blackberry%20jam.)%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
