,%20she%20said%20no.%20I%20said%20not%20even%20a%20little?%20She%20conceded%20it%20hurt%20a%20little.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDad%20says%20if%20she%20were%20an%20adult%20she%20would%20be%20belly%20aching%20about%20it%20for%20weeks.%20But%20that%E2%80%99s%20kids%20for%20you.%20They%20have%20more%20important%20things%20to%20do.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20this%20kid%20in%20particular%20is%20over%20the%20moon%20about%20school.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20about%20you,%20but%20this%20time%20of%20year%20I%20always%20start%20trying%20to%20figure%20out%20ways%20to%20make%20my%20treats%20more%20child%20friendly.%20For%20me%20this%20means%20both%20more%20interesting%20looking%20(like%20the%20M&Ms)%20and%20a%20little%20more%20healthy%20(whole%20grains,%20nuts,%20natural%20sweeteners,%20etc).%20Which%20is%20kind%20of%20silly%20in%20some%20ways%20because%20in%20the%20case%20of%20these%20beauties,%20it%20is%20not%20like%20they%20became%20after%20school%20treats%20or%20were%20even%20sent%20into%20school.%20It%20is%20purely%20instinctual,%20something%20I%20do%20without%20thinking%20about%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20happy%20to%20state%20that%20these%20beauties%20do%20not%20taste%20like%20the%20healthier%20option%20at%20all.%20They%20are%20wonderfully%20chewy%20and%20chocolate-y%20without%20being%20the%20kind%20of%20intense%20chocolate%20that%20you%20can%20only%20eat%20a%20few%20bites%20of.%20I%20started%20with%20a%20recipe%20in%20Lisa%20Slater%E2%80%99s%20Brownie%20Lover%E2%80%99s%20Bible%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E,%20but%20the%20recipe%20turned%20out%20to%20be%20more%20inspiration%20and%20less%20actual%20recipe.%20For%20one%20thing,%20the%20recipe%20was%20for%20more%20what%20I%20would%20consider%20a%20blondie;%20for%20another%20thing,%20she%20suggests%20various%20ways%20to%20change%20it%20(adding%20cocoa,%20adding%20melted%20chocolate,%20etc)%20but%20says%20nothing%20of%20how%20much%20to%20add%20and%20what%20to%20remove%20if%20you%20do%20add.%20So%20I%20felt%20like%20my%20final%20result%20was%20pretty%20much%20its%20own%20creation.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E100%25%20Whole%20Grain%20Oatmeal%20Brownies%20with%20M&Ms%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20a%20huge%20recipe.%20So%20we%20are%20going%20to%20bake%20the%20brownies%20in%20a%20rimmed%20cookie%20sheet%20(18X13%20inches).%20Line%20the%20cookie%20sheet%20with%20parchment%20paper%20and%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20300%20F.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhisk%20together%20the%20flour,%20salt%20and%20baking%20soda.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20the%20butter%20with%20%C2%BD%20cup%20of%20the%20chocolate%20chips%20in%20a%20microwave%20safe%20bowl.%20Melt,%20in%2030%20second%20intervals%20on%2050%25%20power%20until%20you%20can%20whisk%20it%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhisk%20in%20the%20sugars%20and%20cocoa%20powder.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20eggs%20one%20at%20a%20time,%20stirring%20vigorously%20after%20each%20one.%20Beat%20in%20the%20vanilla.%20When%20the%20batter%20looks%20thick,%20shiny,%20and%20well%20blended,%20add%20the%20flour%20mixture%20and%20stir%20until%20you%20cannot%20see%20it%20any%20longer,%20then%20beat%20vigorously%20for%20about%2040%20strokes.%20Stir%20in%20the%20oats,%20both%20kinds,%20and%20then%20fold%20in%20the%20remaining%20chocolate%20chips%20and%201%20cup%20of%20the%20M&Ms.%20Spread%20the%20batter%20evenly%20in%20the%20prepared%20pan.%20Sprinkle%20with%20the%20remaining%20%C2%BC%20cup%20of%20M&Ms%20and%20then%20sprinkle%20with%20vanilla%20salt%20to%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20until%20a%20toothpick%20plunged%20into%20the%20center%20emerges%20slightly%20moist%20with%20batter,%20about%2035%20minutes.%20Let%20cool%20completely%20on%20a%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUsing%20a%20biscuit%20cutter,%20cut%20the%20brownies%20into%20rounds%20(or%20slice%20into%20rectangles).%20Be%20sure%20to%20enjoy%20the%20scraps%20if%20you%20use%20the%20biscuit%20cutter!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.2.2124%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eback%20to%20school,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebar%20cookies,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebrownies,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Echocolate,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Echocolate%20chips,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecocoa,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EM&Ms,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eoatmeal,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eoats,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Especial%20dark,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewhole%20grain%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
