ready to cook ham

In a hurry, I snagged a cheap ham the day after thanksgiving, got it home and then noticed it was not fully cooked but ready to cook. I cannot tell from the Nuwave cookbooks if the instructions are for hams just being heated up, or hams that require cooking. Anyone have any experience with cooking hams? I've done a fully cooked and it was delicious, after I scraped off the charred glaze which I put on right away instead of the last five minutes.

Re: ready to cook ham

Since the weight counts for time cooked, I just judge, to tell the truth. I love cooking spiral ham in the NuWave. I check the ham and when it looks pretty baked on the top, I turned it over and do the same on the bottom. I wanted both sides the same. I didnt add the glaze till 5 minutes before I was going to take it out of the NuWave. I am not always sure of time so I estimate and everything seems to come out perfect. When you use the NuWave for a while, you will see what I mean. AND always remember, it takes at least 5 minutes for the NuWave to heat properly, so add that time to your cooking.

Thanks, Marion, I really appreciate your response. I will definitely try a spiral cut ham next time.

Re: ready to cook ham

I just got my NuWave so I am still learning. I did a deboned turkey breast that was wrapped in netting. I did not have suitable instructions on how to cook this so I started it with skin side down and flipped it half way through. The netting that was not against the bird did burn but that was not an issue. The skin started to brown really early in the last half so I used aluminum foil. I started out with full power but cut it back to 8 at some point. If I were to cook a raw ham, I would do basically the same thing and set power at 8, and cook according to the instructions for the product.

As to the spiral cut ham, do they come uncooked? The ones I've seen have been fully cooked.

Re: ready to cook ham

Thanks Jerry. I love my Nuwave, but am still needing to do more experimenting with new things that I don't have a specific recipe for. I'm one of those cooks who cannot cook without a recipe to follow, although I am slowly starting to make up my own. I will try this ham at 8 and keep an eye on it. And I'm pretty sure all the spiral cut hams are fully cooked

Re: ready to cook ham

I am making a spiral ham today and was wondering if any of you wrapped it tight in foil as the instructions say to do??? It is precooked and says not to over bake and dry it out...
