I've been working in food service for 20 years and have been sous chef for 7 years at a local french bistro. I have two kids, 7 years and 1-week old. My husband is a chef for an assisted living community.

My grandmother and mother were my biggest influences. They were both big party throwers, so I learned to cook for large groups at a young age. Mostly appetizer/bbq/finger type foods. I was born, raised, and still live in Austin, Texas. I have learned a lot of my mother's recipes were "cheaters" using canned and packaged foods. I took a lot of those and create them now with fresh ingredients instead. I learned quite a bit about Texas and Mexican cooking. I've trained in french cooking the last 7years. My husband worked at an Italian restaurant for 2yrs, so I got to dabble some in that area. I'm not much for "haute" food, especially fusion. I prefer simple classics and down-home cookin'. There's nothing quite like a good piece of fried chicken or a bbq sauce made with love.
