Peas with Bacon and Chive Blossoms

So far, this week has been crazy but in a happy way. There has been a lot to do but also many good things have happened! Happy and crazy, what a great feeling! Those are exactly the vibes you might experience if you prepare this Peas with Bacon and Chive Blossoms side dish to the soundtrack I listened to while putting it together.

First the dish. It starts with getting crazy and throwing health caution to the wind by cooking up some bacon in the skillet. That’s followed with a dose of savory garlic a few cups of happy healthy green peas. Chopped chives are added to the mixture and then you have the option of adding some more crazy style to the dish by tossing petals from chive blossoms (if you have any) on top. This salty and savory mixture is surprisingly tasty and it beats eating boring plain peas!

Now for the music. I filled my kitchen with sounds of the Pulp Fiction movie soundtrack while making this dish. It definitely creates an interesting cooking atmosphere. The disc starts with some crazy violent cursing but then it moves on to wonderful happy soulful songs such as “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. The ultimate mixture of happy and crazy then unite on track 13, which is the Stadler Brothers’ song “Flowers On the Wall”. It has an incredibly happy country rhythm but the lyrics are absolutely nuts!

I guess the lesson from this cooking experience is it’s fine to get crazy in the kitchen with ingredients and music as long as the results are insanely good!

Instruments

Lyrics

In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until brown and crisp. Transfer bacon to paper towels. Discard all but 1 tbsp of bacon drippings from the skillet.

Add garlic to skillet. Cook for 30 seconds. (Don't let garlic brown or it will go bitter). Add peas to skillet and cook until heated through. Mix in bacon and season with salt and pepper.

Tranfer to a serving dish, top with chives and sprinkle with petals from chive blossoms. Serve!

Volume: Makes 6 servings

Prepare it then share it!
