This past week, my family and I decided we had had enough of winter and took a short trip to New Orleans. When we arrived on Saturday, the skies were overcast, but it was warm...and there was no snow! Grass was green, trees had leaves, and flowers were in bloom everywhere. Such a welcome site after the lack of spring we've had up north.
If you have never been to New Orleans, I can't express enough how wonderful the food is! Every place we dined was amazing...not a bad meal, or even a mediocre meal, was had. I think I had fresh seafood everyday we were there!

%20to%20Cafe%20Du%20Monde.%20%20This%20cafe%20is%20open%207%20days%20a%20week,%2024%20hours%20a%20day%20and%20has%20been%20serving%20hot%20beignet,%20cafe%20au%20lait,%20coffee%20with%20chicory,%20orange%20juice%20and%20hot%20chocolate%20since%201862.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20aren't%20familiar%20with%20beignet,%20they%20are%20fluffy%20pillows%20of%20dough,%20deep%20fried%20and%20piled%20high%20with%20powdered%20sugar%20and%20served%20warm.%20%20You%20get%203%20to%20an%20order%20for%20around%20$2.50%20from%20Cafe%20Du%20Monde.%20%20They%20are%20definitely%20hard%20to%20eat%20without%20getting%20powdered%20sugar%20everywhere!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20stopped%20at%20the%20French%20Market%20and%20discovered%20that%20Fifth%20Annual%20FoodFest%20was%20in%20progress.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20were%20still%20full%20from%20lunch%20and%20dessert,%20but%20we%20found%20room%20for%20some%20Alligator%20Sausage%20and%20Baked%20Alaska.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFoodFest%20had%20booths%20from%20restaurants%20all%20over%20the%20country%20serving%20all%20kinds%20of%20cuisine%20and%20offering%20up%20small%20portions%20to%20sample%20for%20a%20reasonable%20price.%20A%20food%20blogger's%20paradise!%20%20lol%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInside%20the%20market%20were%20treasures%20galore!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20following%20day,%20we%20awoke%20to%20enjoy%20a%20Jazz%20brunch%20in%20the%20courtyard%20of%20Court%20of%20the%20Two%20Sisters.%20%20One%20word,%20amazing!%20%20The%20courtyard%20was%20covered%20in%20blooming%20wisteria%20and%20we%20were%20serenaded%20by%20a%20three%20piece%20jazz%20band%20while%20enjoying%20the%20phenomenal%20buffet.%20%20It%20was%20perfect.%20%20It%20was%20here%20that%20we%20discovered%20grillades%20and%20grits%20and%20I%20had%20a%20perfectly%20poached%20egg%20on%20my%20Eggs%20Benedict.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20enjoyed%20a%20riverboat%20cruise%20on%20the%20Natchez,%20where,%20even%20there,%20the%20meal%20was%20delicious!%20%20They%20served%20us%20fried%20catfish,%20shrimp%20creole,%20red%20beans%20and%20rice,%20slaw,%20and%20some%20amazing%20bread%20pudding.%20The%20boat%20ride%20down%20the%20Mississippi%20and%20back%20up%20was%20so%20relaxing%20and%20enjoyable.%20%20Sitting%20in%20the%20sun%20and%20watching%20the%20paddle%20was%20almost%20hypnotic.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20we%20had%20to%20do%20a%20carriage%20ride%20through%20the%20French%20Quarter...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20a%20Haunted%20History%20Tour%20at%20night!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20also%20took%20a%20day%20to%20tour%20the%20Garden%20District%20uptown.%20%20The%20Garden%20District%20is%20just%20beautiful%20with%20it's%20million%20dollar%20homes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20tour%20also%20included%20visiting%20one%20of%20New%20Orleans%20famous%20above%20ground%20cemeteries.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20we%20stumbled%20upon%20this%20little%20gem%20of%20a%20restaurant,%20Coquette...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewhere%20they%20serve%20you%20hot%20bread%20baked%20on%20premises%20and%20a%20menu%20that%20changes%20daily%20and%20focuses%20on%20seasonal%20and%20local%20ingredients.%20%20I%20ordered%20the%20salad,%20catfish,%20and%20the%20chocolate%20tart.%20%20My%20youngest%20son%20got%20daring%20and%20tried%20the%20pork%20cheek.%20%20He%20said%20it%20was%20one%20of%20the%20most%20delicious%20things%20he%20had%20ever%20eaten.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20finished%20off%20our%20trip%20with%20a%20visit%20to%20Blaine%20Kern's%20Mardi%20Gras%20World.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20place%20is%20very%20cool.%20%20It's%20here%20that%20they%20build%20the%20floats%20and%20the%20props%20for%20the%20extravagant%20Mardi%20Gras%20parades.%20%20Above%20are%20the%20drawings%20and%20the%20start%20of%20one%20of%20next%20year's%20Mardi%20Gras%20parades!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20had%20so%20much%20fun%20in%20New%20Orleans!%20%20For%20me,%20it%20was%20about%20all%20that%20delicious%20food%20and%20the%20chance%20to%20get%20inspired%20in%20my%20kitchen%20again!%20%20My%20youngest%20LOVED%20all%20the%20art%20and%20music%20that%20seems%20to%20be%20everywhere.%20%20My%20middle%20son%20enjoyed%20the%20steamboat%20and%20he%20also%20loved%20the%20food.%20%20My%20husband,%20he%20enjoyed%20visiting%20the%20WWII%20Museum%20(%20yes,%20we%20did%20that%20too,%20but%20I'm%20not%20a%20war%20buff,%20so%20I%20didn't%20really%20take%20any%20pictures%20there).%20%20So%20our%20trip%20had%20something%20for%20everyone.%20%20We%20missed%20a%20huge%20early%20spring%20snow%20storm%20while%20we%20were%20there,%20and%20I'm%20thinking,%20that%20might%20have%20been%20the%20BEST%20part%20of%20the%20whole%20trip!!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
