Broken Glass

Doesn’t this look pretty?? I have always wanted to make some variation of this very old recipe and a recent family gathering was just the opportunity. Take note: it’s something that you are going to t to start a few days before you need it. Each part isn’t difficult or time consuming, but there’s a lot of “resting” between each step…

Broken Glass

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

Spray 4 small Tupperware containers with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside. Bring 5+ cups water to a boil. Combine 1 cup boiling water with 1 package Jell-O, stirring until dissolved. Place the dissolved Jell-O in 1 of the prepared containers. Repeat with the remaining packages of Jell-O. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

When the Jell-O has set, bring another 1 1/2 cups water to a boil. While the water is heating, sprinkle 2 packets of unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup of cold water. Allow to stand for about 4 minutes. When the water is boiling, pour 1 1/2 cups over the dissolved gelatin and stir to combine. Add the sweetened condensed milk and mix well. Allow to come to room temperature (make sure to do this or it will “melt” the Jell-O when you add it!)

Lightly spray a 9 x 13 pan with non-stick cooking spray. Carefully cut the colored Jell-O into cubes and gently toss to combine in the pan. Pour the cooled milk mixture over the colored Jell-O and rearrange some of the pieces to make sure it is evenly distributed and not sticking out of the white mixture too far. Refrigerate overnight. Cut into any shape you want and enjoy!!

PS: I used 6 different flavors and that was way too many, it just wasn’t as pretty- so stick with the 4 that the recipe calls for.
