?%20Did%20you%20wear%20really%20lame-looking%20pastel-colored%20outfits%20with%20bow%20ties%20and%20Mary%20Janes?%20Or%20did%20you%20force%20those%20sort%20of%20cute%20things%20on%20your%20kids,%20instead?!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGet%20this:%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20do%20any%20of%20those%20things.%20Except,%20of%20course,%20I%20did%20have%20an%20enjoyable%20weekend.%20Duh.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20spent%20all%20day%20Saturday%20at%20Tomales%20Bay%20Oyster%20Farm%20again,%20because%20going%20this%20long%20without%20an%20oyster%20retreat%20was%20just%20silly.%20The%20weather%20was%20brilliantly%20sunny,%20speckled%20with%20a%20%20few%20appearances%20by%20the%20clouds%20and%20the%20wind,%20and%20we%20had%20plenty%20of%20awesome%20food%20to%20choose%20from,%20which%20meant%20we%20pretty%20much%20ate%20from%2011%20AM%20to%205%20PM,%20and%20there%20was%20nothing%20wrong%20with%20that%20in%20the%20slightest.%20We%20finished%20up%20the%20day%20with%20some%20Walking%20Dead%20episodes,%20since%20Judy%20and%20Jared%20can%E2%80%99t%20seem%20to%20get%20their%20act%20together%20to%20watch%20the%20rest%20of%20this%20season%20on%20their%20own.%20Dang%20non-cable-havers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESunday%20started%20off%20with%20an%20hour%20and%20a%20half%20of%20constant%20sweating%20at%20Bikram%20yoga%20(I%E2%80%99m%20still%20not%20sure%20why%20I%E2%80%99m%20torturing%20myself%20in%20these%20classes,%20but%20I%20think%20I%20sorta%20like%20them%E2%80%A6)%20and%20a%20nice%20lunch%20with%20friends%20followed%20by%20a%20few%20hours%20of%20pinning,%20blogging,%20photo-editing,%20and%20grocery-planning.%20Jealous?%20I%20get%20that%20all%20the%20time%20%20.%20What%20won%E2%80%99t%20make%20you%20jealous,%20I%E2%80%99m%20sure,%20is%20that%20doing%20laundry%20was%20also%20part%20of%20the%20fun.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20before%20I%20forget,%20I%20wanted%20to%20slip%20in%20the%20recipe%20I%20mentioned%20a%20few%20weeks%20back%20%E2%80%93%20the%20fennel%20&%20manchego%20shortbread%20cookies%20that%20were%20part%20of%20the%20co-winning%20Iron%20Chef%20dish%20at%20the%20last%20battle.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20sure%20why%20shortbread%20cookies%20are%20named%20as%20they%20are%20%E2%80%93%20they%20are%20neither%20short%20nor%20bready,%20but%20what%20they%20are%20is%20extremely%20tasty.%20Butter-laden,%20they%20are%20always%20perfect%20cookies%20to%20have%20around%20tea,%20or%20coffee,%20or%20in%20this%20case,%20ice%20cream.%20And%20caramel.%20But%20I%20ate%20a%20few%20by%20themselves%20and%20they%20were%20just%20fine%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20don%E2%80%99t%20let%20these%20cookies%20surprise%20you%20%E2%80%93%20they%20are%20a%20touch%20sweet,%20and%20they%20definitely%20live%20up%20to%20the%20definition%20of%20shortbread,%20which%20essentially%20requires%20that%20they%20are%20loaded%20with%20fat,%20ahem,%20butter,%20and%20that%20they%20are%20crumby%20and%20biscuit-ish,%20but%20what%20they%20also%20do%20is%20this%20%E2%80%93%20they%20also%20lean%20more%20to%20the%20savory%20side%20of%20things,%20which%20some%20people%20find%20weird%20for%20cookies.%20For%20one,%20they%20have%20a%20healthy%20amount%20of%20cheese%20baked%20into%20them,%20which%20once%20out%20of%20the%20oven%20they%20possess%20a%20gorgeous%20orangey-brown%20speck%20here%20and%20there,%20like%20the%20cheese%20in%20a%20cheddar%20biscuit,%20perhaps%20(and%20yes,%20now%20I%20am%20dying%20to%20demolish%20a%20biscuit.%20with%20or%20without%20cheddar.%20preferably%20with.).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20two,%20they%20are%20showered%20in%20fennel%20seeds,%20which%20I%20promise%20you%20only%20makes%20them%20better.%20You%20could%20nix%20the%20fennel%20if%20you%20wanted%20to,%20and%20add%20say,%20sesame%20seeds%20or%20lavender%20or%20orange%20zest%20or%20whatever,%20but%20I%20swear%20to%20you%20the%20fennel%20and%20Manchego%20cheese%20are%20meant%20to%20be%20in%20this%20cookie.%20I%20promise%20you,%20your%20mouth%20will%20thank%20you.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EManchego%20Shortbread%20with%20Fennel%20&%20Sea%20Salt%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20Bon%20Appetit,%20March%202012;%20makes%20~24%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etime%20commitment:%203%20hours%20(1%20hour%20active;%202%20hours%20chilling%20dough)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eingredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Einstructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUsing%20an%20electric%20mixer,%20beat%20butter%20in%20a%20medium%20bowl%20on%20low%20speed%20until%20smooth,%201%E2%80%932%20minutes.%20Add%20powdered%20sugar,%20pepper,%20and%20kosher%20salt.%20Reduce%20speed%20to%20medium%20and%20beat,%20occasionally%20scraping%20down%20sides%20of%20bowl,%20until%20light%20and%20fluffy,%204%E2%80%935%20minutes.%20Add%20flour%20and%20cheese.%20Reduce%20mixer%20speed%20to%20low%20and%20beat%20mixture%20just%20until%20dough%20comes%20together.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWrap%20dough%20in%20plastic%20and%20flatten%20into%20a%20rectangle.%20Chill%20until%20firm,%20at%20least%202%20hours.%20You%20can%20do%20this%20up%20to%20a%20few%20days%20in%20advance%20if%20you%20want.%20Let%20stand%20at%20room%20temperature%20for%2030%20minutes%20before%20continuing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPulse%20fennel%
